Feeding your babies development in their first 1000 days.

“I popped into the supermarket today for a ‘quick’ shop, but I ended up stuck in this aisle for 20 minutes just... reading labels. 🧐

As a mum, I’m busy. I get the need for convenience. But as someone who has been deep-diving into the recent news about formula toxins and heavy metal reports, I can’t unsee what I’ve learned. 📖
The reality? A lot of what we see on these shelves is built for a ‘long life’ on a pallet, not for a fresh start for a tiny human.

Who else has been reading labels a little more closely lately? Let’s talk about what you’re finding (or not finding) in the comments. 👇”

Did you know?? 💡

Babies are born with around 30,000 taste buds – far more than adults! This makes them super sensitive to new flavours. It also means it might take a few tries for them to accept a new food, so don’t give up after the first taste! Keep offering different textures and tastes to broaden their palate.

Looking back, what’s one thing you wish someone had told you before you started weaning?

I’ll go first: How messy it really is... and how little of it actually goes in! 😂

Now your turn! ⬇️

Did you know that babies don’t need teeth to chew? 👶🦷

Their gums are surprisingly strong, and it’s perfectly safe to offer soft finger foods (think avocado slices, well-steamed veggies, or banana).

Chewing is about practice, not perfection.

Trust the process, and your baby.

Have you tried finger foods yet, or are you feeling unsure?

👀 “You have to start with baby rice.” FALSE.

There’s no one “right” first food and you don’t need to stick to beige or bland either.

Would you be surprised to hear that broccoli, mango, or even scrambled egg are great options?

Weaning doesn’t start on the first spoon – it starts with confidence. 💫

If you’re not sure where to begin with weaning, you’re not alone. That first step into solid food can feel exciting but also really overwhelming. When to start? What signs to look for? Spoon-fed or baby-led? There’s so much information out there – it’s no wonder parents feel confused!

That’s exactly why I created my FREE Pre-Wean Masterclass, a supportive, one-off session designed to guide you through those crucial early decisions.

We’ll cover:
✨ Signs your baby is actually ready
🍓 First tastes and how to introduce them safely
🪄 Building confidence for a stress-free weaning journey

This isn’t about strict rules – it’s about support, reassurance, and preparing you to feel ready when your baby is.

📅 Next masterclass: Monday 30th June at 11am

Gagging vs Choking, know the difference.

Starting solids can be nerve-wracking, especially when those first coughs or splutters happen at the table.

But here’s the truth:

Gagging is normal. It’s noisy, dramatic, and actually protective. It means your baby’s
learning how to manage food safely.

Choking is silent and serious, it needs immediate action.

Key signs to look out for:

Gagging: red face, coughing, sounds, tongue thrusting.

Choking: silence, struggling to breathe, panicked look, bluish skin

It’s scary, but knowledge = confidence.

Let’s talk about sugar in baby food pouches.

They may look healthy, organic, and baby-friendly, but are they really? 👀

Did you know? Many pre-made baby pouches contain the equivalent of several teaspoons of sugar, even when they don’t list “sugar” as an ingredient.

Here’s how it happens:

🍌 Fruit-heavy blends (like apple, banana, and mango) are naturally high in sugars – and often make up 80–90% of the pouch, even in “veg” blends.

🍓 These sugars, even though “natural,” still behave like free sugars once puréed – meaning they spike blood sugar and can impact tooth health.

🧃 And because they’re smooth and sweet, babies don’t learn to chew or accept more bitter, textured foods – making fussy eating more likely later on.

⚖️ It’s not about never using pouches, it’s about knowing what’s inside them.

“My baby is big, so they must be ready for solids!” 👶

You’ve probably heard this one before, or even thought it yourself. But the truth is…

Size isn’t a sign of readiness.

Starting solids is about development, not weight or age alone.

Even if your little one is on the bigger side or growing quickly, they still need to show all the key signs that their body is ready, llike sitting up with good head control and losing the tongue-thrust reflex.

🥄 Weaning is a skill, and like all milestones, it’s best supported when your baby is truly ready, no matter their size.
