Remembering Srebrenica 2026 - The Cheetham Poet walks for peace

Sarfraz M Malik - The Cheetham Poet

This years theme: “We are here” the voice of survivors of genocide who endured unimaginable loss, yet stand today with dignity, courage and strength. It is also a call to action for all of us, to stand up against hate and prejudice.
The vision of Remembering Srebrenica: A society free from hatred

Please visit http://www.srebrenica.org.uk/ to learn more about the work of this charitable organisation and to see the testimony of survivors.

To escape danger thousands of residents of Srebrenica fled to a safe haven in Tuzla. Along the way over 8000 were massacred. A horrific atrocity committed on our very own doorstep, Europe! This year marks the 31st Anniversary of this event. Each year many thousands walk for peace from Tuzla to Srebrenica covering the 62 miles whilst experiencing the terrain, beautiful views and listening to those that lived through the horror. This annual event is called “Mars Mira” meaning peace march. Individuals and groups around the world mirror this walk. This year again, my target is to walk the equivalent distance of 62 miles by walking most of it in my beloved Heaton Park. I shall complete by walking the last 6/7 miles from Bury to Manchester on Sunday 5th July starting at 10 am from Bury Town Hall.

You are welcome to join me.

Freind’s do visit the Remembering Srebrenica website using the link above. Make a donation. Participate in events near you. Sign up to receive regular updates.

Let us hope, pray and work to avoid this happening ever again anywhere in the world.

11th July is a United Nations designated day “Remembering Srebrenica “

Remembering the Bosnian Genocide. July 11th marks Srebrenica Memorial Day, a day in which we pay tribute to the victims of the Bosnian genocide and by educating on the consequences of the hatred sending a clear message to future generations to say "Never Again"

O Allah, forgive her and have mercy on her. Grant her well-being and pardon her. Honor her abode and make her entrance spacious. Wash her with water, snow, and hail, and cleanse her of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Replace her home with a better home, her family with a better family, and her spouse with a better spouse. Admit her into Paradise, and protect her from the punishment of the grave and from the punishment of the Fire. Učini plemenitim njen boravak i proširi njen ulazak.
