The Purple Wave brings together thousands of University students staff and alumni through our mass participation running, walking or jogging events! It started in 2016 when members of UoM Sport decided they should enter a group of university staff and students into the Great Manchester Run. The event has continued to grow and develop each year with over 3000 members of the UoM community taking part in the 2019 PurpleWave.
This year we are running an extra competition in the School of Natural Sciences. One random student from the Department which has the highest percentage of their staff and students sign up will win a £10 UoM Nike Store voucher! Make sure to get friends and lecturers from (OUR DEPARTMENT) to sign up, so that one of our students wins the voucher!
1. Sign up for the Virtual Purple Wave 10k or half marathon events here: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=B8tSwU5hu0qBivA1z6kad7vKo91pMulCnE77psQ3NUNUQkRTNU5QMzJIQ0JKU0lPUktNM1BEMlNTMCQlQCN0PWcu
2. Run, walk, or jog 10k or a half marathon on 22nd or 23rd May
3. We will calculate which Department in the School of Natural Sciences has the highest percentage of their staff and students sign up
4. One student from the winning Department wins a £10 UoM Nike Store voucher!
You don’t have to be a runner to take part! Every year staff, students, and alumni come together to take part in the Great Manchester 10k or Half Marathon – some will run the whole thing, some won’t, as long as you complete distance it doesn’t matter how you take part! The Great Manchester Run isn’t taking place this year, but we still want as many staff, students, and alumni as possible to take part in the Purple Wave virtually. Find more info and the sign up link here!
