For more than a decade, APEX Taekwondo Greater Manchester created a place in Chadderton where athletes, families and coaches have shared countless memories, friendships and achievements.
When that home was suddenly taken away, the club was left facing uncertainty. Training was disrupted, competition preparation was affected and the future of the club was suddenly far less certain.
But what followed showed exactly what makes the British Taekwondo community so special.
Clubs from across the country opened their doors, offered training and stood alongside Apex when they needed it most. Coaches gave their time without asking for anything in return, while parents and members continued to support their club through a period that could easily have seen the community pulled apart.
For Rooji Karim and everyone at Apex, the support has meant more than simply having somewhere to train. It has been a reminder that although a club may lose the place it calls home, the community and friendships built over that time cannot be taken away.
As Apex works towards finding a permanent home and rebuilding the stability its members deserve, the club carries on with the support of a much wider British Taekwondo family.
