π§§π΄ Celebrating Lunar New Year at nursery π΄π§§
We have been marking Lunar New Year with lots of exciting activities across the nursery, learning about traditions and the meaning behind this special celebration.
To celebrate the Year of the Horse, the children enjoyed a themed fruit tray, exploring new flavours and talking about the symbolism of the zodiac animal for the year ahead. ππ
Our role play area was transformed into our very own Chinese restaurant, where the children took orders, served food and engaged in imaginative play, developing their communication and social skills. π₯’π
We also explored a coloured rice sensory tray, encouraging the children to investigate different textures, scoop, pour and develop their fine motor skills.
Our nursery door was decorated especially for Lunar New Year, with beautiful red decorations, as red symbolises prosperity and positivity for the year ahead. β€οΈ
It has been a wonderful opportunity to learn about different cultures, traditions and celebrations from around the world. πβ¨

πβ¨ Celebrating Ramadan at our nursery β¨π
This week we have been learning about Ramadan and why it is such a special and important time for many families in our community.
We created a lovely Ramadan role play area, where the children have been exploring traditions, looking at decorations, and learning about the significance of this holy month in an age-appropriate way. Through stories, discussions and play, the children have been developing their understanding of different cultures and celebrations around the world.
At snack time, we also celebrated iftar, talking about how families come together to break their fast at sunset. The children enjoyed sharing food together and learning about the importance of kindness, gratitude and community.
We are proud to celebrate diversity and help our children learn about and respect different faiths and traditions. π

Our preschool children have been busy making their own nut free bird feeders as part of our outdoor learning activities.
They carefully mixed the ingredients, shaped the feeders to develop their fine motor skills, and followed simple instructions together. Once finished, they proudly hung them in the garden and are now excitedly watching to see which birds come to visit.
This activity supports understanding of nature, caring for wildlife, and encourages curiosity about the world around them π¦πΏ

This month the children are exploring the story Elmer. To bring the book to life, they helped create a colourful Elmer display board as part of an activity planned and led by our apprentice Sofia.
The children designed their own Elmers using a range of materials, taking part in sticking, gluing and painting to develop fine motor skills, creativity and concentration.
Story time was a highlight, particularly Elmer and the Rainbow, which helped the children explore messages about celebrating differences through discussion and creative play ππ

A little after the fact now that we are in the New Year, but we still wanted to share some lovely moments from when the Kenwood children helped celebrate Hanukkah.
The children enjoyed making handprint menorahs with fingertip candles, exploring numeracy through menorah maths, and creating their own menorahs using play dough. These activities were a great way to learn about different celebrations while developing creativity and early maths skills.
We loved seeing the children so engaged and curious as they explored Hanukkah together πβ¨

We are getting ready for winter and the festive season here at Kenwood, and the children have been enjoying lots of seasonal activities.
Our older children explored winter sensory play dough and took part in a numeracy activity matching numbers to penguins. The under 2s enjoyed winter sensory play too, including a yummy Christmas tree and a fun winter sensory scene to explore.
We have also started getting ready for Christmas by opening a βwindowβ of our advent calendar and posting letters to Santa. It has been lovely to see so much excitement and curiosity as we head towards the festive season πβ¨

π¦ Road Safety Week Adventures! π¦
This week our little learners became road-safety superstars! π
They had so much fun exploring our road-safety tuff tray β stopping at red lights and zooming off when it turned green! ππ
We got creative with traffic-light paintings π¨ and even went on a walk to practise looking both ways and waiting for the green man.
Lots of learning, lots of laughter, and plenty of proud moments. π
Well done, everyone! π

We had a wonderful time supporting Children in Need this week.
The children took part in lots of fun activities to help raise money, including a cake sale, crazy hair day, pyjama day and a teddy bear's picnic.

πΊ Remembering together πΊ
This week, the children have been learning about Remembrance Day and helping to make beautiful poppies to honour and remember those who have served.
They used red and black tissue paper to decorate their poppies, carefully gluing and sticking each piece to bring their artwork to life. Itβs been a lovely way to talk about kindness, bravery, and saying thank you to others.
Weβre so proud of how thoughtful and creative the children have been. Their poppies look wonderful! β€οΈ
