🐣✨ Happy Easter Mark Making Fun! ✨🐣
Today our toddlers enjoyed a lovely Easter-themed mark making activity using dry white flour! 🌼 We hid Easter pictures underneath the flour and the children used their fingers and hands to explore, reveal, and create marks.
It was a fantastic sensory experience that encouraged curiosity, exploration, and creativity. The children loved drawing patterns and lines and were seen clapping their hands in excitement.
The activity helps promotes:
🌟 Expressive Arts & Design – exploring textures and making marks in different ways
🌟 Physical Development – developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
🌟 Communication & Language – talking about what they could see and feel
🌟 Understanding the World – discovering hidden pictures and exploring cause and effect
Such a simple but magical way to celebrate Easter! 🐰

This morning in the toddler room, we explored a creative building activity using natural materials such as dry breakfast items. The children pretended to be joiners and builders, using these materials to construct and design their own imaginative structures. This activity helped to develop their fine motor skills, hand–eye coordination, creativity, and problem-solving abilities. It also encouraged teamwork, communication, and sensory exploration through the use of real-life objects.

🧸 Objects of Reference in Our Baby Room 🧸
In our setting, we use objects of reference to support our youngest children in understanding their daily routines. These simple, familiar items help babies make connections between objects and activities, building early communication skills.
For example, we show a spoon before mealtimes, a book for story time, and a soft blanket when it’s time to rest. Over time, the children begin to recognise these cues, helping them feel secure and confident in their environment.
This approach supports the EYFS areas of Communication and Language, as well as Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Spoon → mealtime
Nappy → changing time
Book → story time
Cup → snack/drink time
Blanket or soft toy → sleep/rest time
Ball → outdoor or playtime

This week, we had a visit from our Early Years and Children’s Advisers at the nursery. They were incredibly supportive and shared many valuable, practical strategies that we can use to enhance our daily practice with the children. The advisers took time to observe our environment and offered positive, constructive feedback. Their visit was both encouraging and inspiring, and it was lovely to see how engaged they were with the staff and children. We truly appreciate their guidance and the fresh ideas they provided to help us continue improving our provision.

This morning we had a short fine‑motor and early‑writing activity. Our 2‑year‑old used chunky pencils on large paper to make lines, circles, and dots. We encouraged a simple three‑finger grip and slow, controlled movements. This helped strengthen hand and finger muscles and supported early pencil control.

🌤️ Outdoor Fun with Balloons & Bubbles 🫧🎈
Today our babies enjoyed some lovely time outdoors exploring balloons and bubbles. The children watched the bubbles float through the air, reaching out to pop them and laughing as they disappeared. The colourful balloons gently moved in the breeze, encouraging the babies to crawl, reach and explore.
This activity supported the children to develop their hand–eye coordination, gross motor skills, and curiosity about the world around them. They showed great excitement as they followed the bubbles with their eyes and attempted to catch them.
We also used lots of language during the activity, describing what was happening such as “pop”, “bubble”, “up”, and “down”, helping to build early communication skills.
The babies had a wonderful time moving, exploring and enjoying the fresh air together. 🌈

☘️ St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Play ☘️
Today our little learners explored a St. Patrick’s themed sensory water tray! 💚
The tray was filled with green-tinted water, gold coins, shamrocks, and scoops for splashing and pouring. The babies loved watching the water move, feeling the different textures, and practising their hand-eye coordination as they scooped and poured.
Sensory water play supports:
💧 Curiosity and exploration
💧 Fine motor development
💧 Early language through describing what they see and feel
A fun and simple way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day while learning through play! 🌈✨
