ROCKSTAR MATHS DAY AT CHOWBENT - All day
To promote the 'Times Tables RockStars' learning platform, Numbots and enjoyment for maths, we will be holding a ‘Rock Stars Maths Day’ on Thursday 26th September.
Children are encouraged to dress up as a rock star on the day. As well as wearing rock star clothes, your child might decide to bring an inflatable instrument or microphone, wear cool looking sunglasses or have their hair styled to look like their favourite rockstar.
Please be as creative as you can together!
During the day, we will be giving children the opportunity to take part in times table and number challenges, maths problem solving and reasoning activities and exploring number in fun and exciting ways.
We may also have some visitors joining us to talk about how maths is used substantially in their jobs to inspire children to continue to be life-long mathematicians.
We look forward to seeing all of our Chowbent children dressed up on the day!

Chowbent Primary School
At Chowbent Primary school our children are nurtured to believe that -
I speak and I listen, because I will be heard.
I care and I understand, because I belong. I try and I inspire, because I can achieve and succeed. Chowbent Primary School is a one-form entry, family orientated school based in Atherton, Wigan. In our small class environment, we aim to get to know your child as an individual. We are focused on meeting their academic needs whilst promoting positive mental well-being. As we come to the end of another busy school year, I think it’s a good time to reflect back on just how much has been going on, and for me to say a huge thanks to the Chowbent staff team, who always go the extra mile! Our thanks too, to our friends and families who work together with us to help out on trips and visits, volounteer or help raise funds for the children. It is very much appreciated.
As we prepare to say goodbye to Year 6 next week, I want to congratulate them on all that they have achieved during their time at our school. Although the SATs are not the most important thing that we do here, I did want to say well done to Year 6 on their SATs results this year. They have matched the national averages for reading this year, and exceeding them in Maths, Grammar and Writing! What a clever bunch you are!
Throughout the year we have been offering additional tutoring sessions for pupils who need a bit of extra help – these most usually happen after school in small groups or 1:1s. This year we were able to offer tutoring to an unbelievable 87 pupils across the school! That represents an outstanding amount of additional work from the school staff team who become tutors after school or during their lunch breaks. So a huge thank you to all of them for showing such commitment to our pupils.
So, here is a reminder of all the extras that have been going on this year, on top of the day to day delivering of quality teaching across a broad curriculum. I no doubt may have missed a few things, but its an impressive list all the same, made possible by our hard working Chowbent family –

EVEN MORE FROM 'MUSIC ALIVE'
MORE FROM 'MUSIC ALIVE'
WIGAN MUSIC SERVICES - MUSIC ALIVE!
This morning we welcomed the 'Music Alive' string quintet to our school to perform live music for our whole school audience.
We learned that:
* All of the string instruments have 4 strings
* A string quintet often features two violins, a viola, a cello and a double bass
* The larger the string instrument, the lower the notes that can be played.
The string quintet performed popular music from the films; 'W***y Wonka', 'Harry Potter' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. We also listened to music written by composers from earlier eras, such as Vivaldi and
Saint Saens.
We thoroughly enjoyed our live music experience and it has certainly inspired some of us to want to learn to play instruments in the future.
We would like to wish Wigan Warriors lots of luck for their upcoming game this weekend. &WhiteWeek
Good Morning,
Unfortunately, we have been informed that our usual school crossing patrol officer is unable to man our crossing from the 10th June -14th June. Returning on the 17th June.
Please can all parents and children be especially careful when driving and crossing in front of the school on that week.
We are getting set up for our art exhibition. Please come and take a look! 3pm - 5pm
Today Chowbent took part in the ATSA fishing competition. The children had a fantastic day and came second. We are really proud of you boys for representing the school and doing such a great job. Thank you to our parent volunteer Holly and Mrs Ball for organising with ATSA.
Reminder - today is own clothes day information is on Dojo. Please donate £1 or a toy for the summer tombola.
On Friday GMP did an assembly with our Year 5 and Year 6 class about knife crime. Following that we had an exciting visit from the GMP police helicopter. It was an incredible experience for us all and took a lot of organising from GMP. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen and thank you to Park Lee Primary School for sharing this experience with us. I’m sure it is something the children will remember for years to come.
