🇱🇹On 11 March 1990🇱🇹, the Act on the Re-establishment of the Independent State of Lithuania adopted by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania stipulated that the ex*****on of the sovereign powers of the State of Lithuania, abolished by foreign forces in 1940, is re-established, and henceforth Lithuania is again an independent state.

❤️This Act is a crucial document for Lithuania, which opened a new page in its history after the fifty-year long occupation and annexation by the soviet powers, as well as the efforts of the nation to preserve the spirit of freedom.❤️

🇱🇹❤️Congratulations to Lithuania and all Lithuanians with this holiday ❤️🇱🇹

With love❤️

Today is the first day of the Student Executive Officers 2021 elections. Executive Officers are students that represent your interests at the university and bring on the changes you want to see. Please take a moment to vote for your future leaders at the Students' Union (SU)!

You’ll also be voting for your next NUS delegates. They represent the student voices on a national level by attending the annual NUS National Conference, working with student representatives from across the country discussing national policies and campaign issues.

In addition, SU is also holding a referendum regarding the poor handling of the COVID-19 crisis by the university officials. In particular, the current Vice Chancellor Nancy Rothwell is facing the vote of no-confidence due to the wide critisism over racial profiling by security guards and er****on of the fences at the Fallowfield Campus as well as student protests and the rent strike that followed.

Baltic Society encourages you to be a part of your elections - use your right, your vote and your voice! Together we can make a difference!

Today is Latvia’s Independence Day (also known as the “National Day”), and UoM Baltic Society wanted to mark this special occasion with our fellow Latvians by sharing a brief post.

Latvian Independence Day commemorates the declaration of independence of the Republic of Latvia from German and Russian occupation on November 18th 1918, after the end of the first world war. This historical moment is significant not just for Latvians, but also Lithuanians and Estonians who share a similar history of oppression by foreign occupying forces, and reclaimed their own sovereignty earlier that year.

Many festive events take place throughout the country on Latvia's National Day, including a nationally broadcasted address to the people by the President. Prior to the pandemic, this speech was given in front of large crowds in the square of the symbolic Freedom Monument in Riga.

Hi everyone! 👋🏼

Our committee member Kitija Kristiana Kalvāne is hosting a virtual quiz night on November 22 at 2 p.m. to help raise money for S.A.L.V.E. International. They work to reduce the number of children living on the streets in Uganda by increasing access to education and reuniting children with their families.

You can help change the lives of many children by making a donation of £3 to attend the virtual quiz (Feel free to make an extra contribution to help even more children). Please leave your name with the donation so I can add you to the list for the quiz!

You can donate here:
