So I got to do a home visit this morning with Christine and her wonderful little lad.

We worked on communication box techniques, increasing opportunities for communication, building receptive language and I showed her how to support Harvey coming away from a preferred activity without any dysregulation and it worked like a dream.

Best part, he was happy stimming for the entire session 😂.

So I did a thing and wrote a children’s book for siblings of autistic kiddos to explain what autism is and help them not to feel overlooked just because their brother or sister may sometimes need more support.

In 3 days.

I’ve got a long way to go and I’m working on images etc at the minute but, if there was one thing you’d like explaining or including in a book like this, what would it be?

Monotropism
Hyperfocus
Special interests
Stimming
Communication
Play
Self injury
Meltdowns and dysregulation
Safe foods and PICA
Transitions
Different journeys to school
How to deal with it when people stare
Safety extras in houses
Sensory and regulation tools
Days out

The idea is to hopefully provide them with knowledge but also validate their feelings. I’ve emphasised that it isn’t their responsibility to fix meltdowns etc and that fair and equal can sometimes look different.

It’s written from Madisons perspective.

I’m hoping this is something that families can use to help promote acceptance and understanding.
