Manchester Communication Academy

Manchester Communication Academy Part of the Greater Manchester Academies Trust. Learning is at the students’ own pace, allowing them to take exams as and when they are ready for them.

Manchester Communication Academy is a new local high school in North Manchester which opened in September 2010 to Year 7 students. The Academy offers a full range of subjects and specialises in communication – speaking and listening, languages, drama, media and presentation skills, and information communication technology. Students are also able to do their homework at the Academy before and after

school, with staff from the Academy there to help. Lessons are inventive and interesting and all students at the Academy are able to use their imagination and grow their talents. The curriculum encourages teamwork, enterprise and collaboration. Parents can help with studies by accessing online updates, reports and information sessions. Everyone who comes to the Academy is able to learn by taking part in real life projects with BT, who are a lead partner for the Academy. As a result young people are encouraged and supported in becoming independent and inspired learners. It has fantastic sports facilities including:
- A large new sports hall
- A full size, all weather, flood-lit sports pitch
- Five grass pitches and three other outdoor games areas
If you would like to hire our sports hall / dance drama theatre (that seats 100 people) or our outdoor floodlit 3G astro pitch please contact Martin Roberts on 0161 202 0161.

Over the Summer term, in KS3 Drama, students have been studying Shakespeare’s work, including Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and a play inspired by The Bard, called ‘Shakeyspeare’.
Last week, students performed their plays in front of their year groups in the Drama Studio and celebrated all their hard work.

Today we were very lucky to welcome back Alumni student Tyler into MCA. After leaving in 2024 Tyler has joining the RAF completing his training at RAF Halton and RAF Cosford and will this week move to his station to continue his work as an Engineer on his favourite aircraft the Typhoon. Tyler shared his journey with our Year 9 & 10 students and about life in the RAF. Following this he then stayed on to talk with the Year 9 and Yr10 Engineering classes about how this applies to his job. He has definitely inspired a new of students to look into careers with their engineering in all different forms. Thanks for coming in today Tyler and best of luck! We welcome you back anytime!

On Tuesday Miss Husraz and Miss Rawson took 10 year 10 French and Spanish students to the Etihad for a Languages event run by Pearson. They listened to various speakers, including Steve Eadon, founder of Mingalaba, speaking about his time working for Arsenal’s community outreach team and how he used languages on a daily basis, to YouTuber Jade Bowler and how languages have enabled her to explore the world. We even had 2 students perform in Languages Got Talent and whilst they didn’t win a prize, they showed true resilience and bravery in getting up in front of 400 of their peers from across the country and recurring a poem in Russian and English.

On Thursday we had the artist Ian Murphy working with 64 Year 10 Art, Craft and Design students. Ian is well known for his mixed media artwork that he creates from travelling the world and documenting what he sees in his sketchbooks. Students were inspired by the work that he showed them. He taught them the skills and processes he uses to create his artwork and they all created their own work using these techniques. Year 10 will include this work as part of their coursework and can continue to use and develop what they learnt in this fantastic workshop. We are very proud of the students and the amazing work they produced.

Year 10 students recently attended a taster day Loreto Sixth Form College. The students had the opportunity to taste a variety of lessons and experience the day in the life of a college student at Loreto. What a wonderful experience for the 50 students who attended.
