🎨✍️ CHOLMONDELEY ART & CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION 2026

We are delighted to launch a unique competition inspired by the extraordinary story of František Besperát, the Czechoslovak soldier and artist whose wartime painting of Cholmondeley has recently returned to the estate where it was created more than 80 years ago.

Children and young people are invited to explore this remarkable shared British, Czech and Slovak heritage by creating a painting, drawing or short story inspired by Cholmondeley, its wartime camp, its landscape and the soldiers who found refuge there during the Second World War.

🏆 Deadline: 4 July
📦 Entries to be delivered by 3 July
📧 [email protected]

The winning entries will be celebrated at Cholmondeley Estate and selected works will be exhibited as part of this special heritage project.

The competition is proudly organised by the Memorial Association for Free Czechoslovak Veterans, Czech and Slovak School Okénko, and Czech School & Community Manchester, with the aim of inspiring a new generation to discover history through creativity.

Dear parents, teachers and friends of our school and community,
The trustees of CSCM are delighted to announce that, following a selection process, Zdenka Procházková has been appointed as the new Headteacher following Pavla’s decision to step down. She will take up the role in September. Zdenka is a qualified secondary school teacher with qualifications from University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University, with rich community work experience from her role at the Manchester City Council.
Many of you will already know Zdenka from her previous work in our school, and we are very much looking forward to her taking on the role.
This Saturday, she will be joining us on the Outdoor school trip, which will provide an opportunity for those who have not yet met her to do so in person.

An introduction from Zdeňka:
Dear parents,
My name is Zdenka Procházková and I am deeply honoured to take on the role of Headteacher of the Czech School & Community Manchester. The Czech school and community are not only a professional commitment for me, but also a personal one – I believe that the Czech language and culture are of fundamental importance for children and families of Czech heritage living in and beyond Manchester.
I have many years of experience in education, community work, and team leadership, and I have worked as a Czech language teacher in our Saturday school. My aim is to build on the strong foundations of the school, to support high-quality teaching, and at the same time to develop community and cultural life so that it is meaningful, safe, and open to everyone.
I enjoy working with parents, teachers, and children, and I believe that together we will create an environment where children feel happy, build a relationship with the Czech language and culture, and where parents can be confident that their children are in a stimulating and friendly environment.
I look forward to meeting and working with you all.
Zdenka
