Time flies when you're having fun and this last year has whizzed by in the blink of an eye!

That is down to the fantastic children who I have been very privileged to get to know and cheer on as they achieve great things πŸ’›πŸπŸ’› They are all the reason why I LOVE MY JOB!

Here is to another year of smiles, laughs and lots more learning through play!

πŸ—£ HUGE SHOUT OUT FOR THIS BRAINY BEE 🐝

You have worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of yourself!

For many months now, one of our Brainy bees has been working on perfecting her multiplication knowledge and fluency. I am amazed at how far she has come and we have had loads of fun learning different methods, spotting patterns and playing games to recall timetables up to 12 along the way!

Wishing her all the best of luck today as she shows off everything she knows. You can do it πŸ’ͺ🏻

The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided. The Department for Education also publishes statistics on MTC attainment.

🐝 BUZZING WITH PRIDE FOR OUR BRAINY BEES 🐝

Hey lovely people, how are we all? Did you have a good half term break?

I have just been reflecting on last term when these Brainy Bees accomplished so much!

πŸ’› For some it was letter formation and for others moving on from writing a fiction text to none fiction.

πŸ’› We played a variarty of fun, creative games to instill those all important times tables and built fluency.

πŸ’› Learnt how to spell common exception words/High frequency words.

πŸ’› Gained a huge amount of confidence in tens and ones, adding double digits with regrouping as well as completing missing number problems.

πŸ’› Not forgetting making a bridge from various materials to withold a car! So many skills needed, aquired and used from such a simple idea.

As we enter the final school half term of this academic year, I am sure each and everyone of these little superstars will continue to push themselves to achieve more and more each week.

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL BACK AND TO WELCOMING A NEW BRAINY BE TO OUR LEARNING HIVE!

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ What are you looking forward to?

πŸ›πŸ¦‹ I'm thrilled to receive our tiny caterpillars from Insect Lore Insect Lore Europe this morning and I'm so excited to watch our little learners observing them each week as they grow. I wonder what fantastic writing will come as a result of this beautiful life cycle πŸ¦‹πŸ›

🐝 Brainy bees are back to it! 🐝

πŸ’› Making learning fun, relevant and purposeful is so important here at Brainy Bees' Learning Hive!

πŸŒͺ For a tornado loving learner we played Jenga and used column addition to work out the answer to the 2 digit addition number sentence on the Jenga piece. When the learner answered it correctly, he won a block to use to build his house. The aim was for us both to correctly answer as many questions as we could to build the biggest house/town. Whoever got the answer wrong, could be a 'tornado' and destroy the other players buildings, just like how a real tornado could.

By playing along, I was able to model column addition, talk through my thought process and ask the learner to help me if I became 'stuck'. Following the child's interests lead to a deeper level of thinking, learning and involvement.

πŸ”« For another learner, it was all about times tables! She loved firing balls at my windows which I had numbered. One of her activities involved shooting at two numbers and multiplying them together. She wrote the answers down on some paper which we later turned into bingo cards to use in the following lesson!

🐢 For my final learner of the week, it was all about exercising those fine motor muscles through dough disco, forming letters correctly and securing a comfortable pencil grip. He will then use what he has learnt when writing a diary all about his new puppy!

➑️ How did your first week go?

❄️ Comments that warm my heart ❄️

πŸ₯Ά Brrr, what a cold week it has been but being back with my little brainy bees has been heartwarming, especially when this passing comment was made during one lesson πŸ’›πŸπŸ’›

This is exactly why I love my job as a teacher now, outside of the school environment. A good tutor really can help a child to develop a love for learning, even when they don't enjoy school. Teaching how children learn best, through play based, hands on, practical activities.
