Congratulations to Year 9’s Florence, who has continued to pursue her passion for the performing arts over the summer.

After shining as Billy Flynn in our 2026 production of Chicago: Teen Edition, Florence joined Manchester Musical Youth for their summer production of Newsies Jr., adding another fantastic show to her growing performance experience.

Following a successful audition, Florence has now been offered a place with Main Stage from September, where she’ll continue to develop her skills and perform in the company’s large-scale musical productions. A fantastic next step for Florence, and we look forward to seeing where her love of performing takes her next. Congratulations!

We're taking the opportunity to revisit our wonderful Music Showcase, held in the summer term – and this time, we have an extra reason to celebrate!

A fantastic celebration of music and performance across Bridgewater, the evening also helped to raise funds for Moya Cole Hospice, Greater Manchester and we're delighted to announce that, together with the proceeds from our summer 5K charity run, our school community has raised more than £2,500 for the Hospice this year, taking the school’s fundraising total for the charity to over £40,000.

A huge thank you to everyone who performed, supported, donated or took part in either event. We're incredibly grateful for the generosity of our Bridgewater community and proud that two such memorable occasions have helped to support an important local cause.

We were delighted to hear of a recent reunion between two of Bridgewater School’s earliest pupils, David M Wooller and Peter M Harris, pictured together 66 years after their school days at Bridgewater.

David and Peter were among the boys who attended Bridgewater during its earliest years – and both can be spotted in this wonderful archive photograph of some of our founder pupils. Even better, one of them can still fit into his original Bridgewater School blazer!

There was something particularly fitting about the setting for their latest get-together, too. The pair met at a beautiful Grade I listed, half-timbered Tudor building in Ludlow, its historic character bearing more than a passing resemblance to Drywood Hall, which became Bridgewater’s home in 1952, two years after the School was founded in Eccles.

Seeing David and Peter together today, alongside a photograph of them as Bridgewater boys more than six decades ago, provides a wonderful connection between our past and present – and a reminder that friendships and memories made at school can last a lifetime.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students as we celebrate another excellent set of GCSE results.

⭐ One third of all grades at 9–7
⭐ Almost 60% of all grades at 6 and above
⭐ 70% of Art grades at 9–7
⭐ Outstanding 9–8 performance across English, Physics and Chemistry

But today is about much more than the headline figures. Once again, our students surpassed their baseline targets across all measures – a fantastic reflection of their hard work and the progress they have made throughout their time at Bridgewater.

There was further success for our Year 10 students, with one third of the year group sitting GCSE Statistics early and achieving a 100% pass rate, with 78% of grades at 6 and above.

Congratulations to every student, and a huge thank you to our staff and families. These achievements reflect the strength of the partnership between home and school and the encouragement and support surrounding our young people throughout their GCSE journey.

We’re delighted to share that Senior School pupil Leo was selected to take part in the Fusion Academy Summer School, hosted by The University of Manchester earlier this month.

After the opportunity was shared by school, Leo submitted his application in April and was successful in securing a place on the week-long programme – an exciting opportunity for young people with an interest in science, technology and engineering.

Organised through the Fusion CDT as part of their outreach programme, the Summer School gave Leo the chance to explore the fascinating world of fusion energy and the engineering behind its future development. Across the week, he took part in a fantastic range of hands-on activities, from robotics and mobile manipulator tasks to VR simulations. He also created his own designs using a 3D printer, closely monitored atoms and discovered more about atomic energy and its potential role in the future.

Leo attended every day of the programme and absolutely loved the experience – returning with plenty of new knowledge, enthusiasm and, of course, his certificate to mark his achievement!

A brilliant opportunity to gain an insight into where a future interest in STEM might lead. Well done, Leo – we’re delighted that you made the most of such a fantastic opportunity!

We are incredibly proud to celebrate another excellent year for Bridgewater Sixth Form, with 65% of all A Level grades awarded at A*–B and 20% at A*–A.

Behind these results are the individual achievements and ambitions of a fantastic group of young people. Members of the Class of 2026 are now looking ahead to exciting next steps at universities including University of Oxford, Newcastle University, University of Liverpool and University of Leeds, pursuing subjects ranging from Human Sciences, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering to Architecture, Law, Diagnostic Radiography and Business Management. Others are pursuing high-quality vocational pathways, including a technical apprenticeship.

We are particularly proud to see so many of our young women pursuing STEM pathways, with half looking to study science-related degrees or degree apprenticeships.

Beyond their academic achievements, this is a year group that has embraced leadership, community involvement, enterprise, sport and opportunities for personal development – experiences that have helped prepare them for life beyond Bridgewater.

Congratulations to every member of the Class of 2026. We are immensely proud of everything you have achieved and cannot wait to see where your ambitions take you next.

This week we're looking back at our Year 9 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition, where 45 students took on two challenging days of walking, navigation, teamwork and camping in the Clitheroe countryside.

The DofE Award Scheme is about far more than completing an expedition. It encourages young people to develop resilience, independence, problem-solving skills and confidence as they work together to overcome challenges.

Despite soaring temperatures, heavy rain, muddy trails and tired legs, our students showed fantastic determination, supported one another throughout and completed the expedition with a superb attitude.

This week we're looking back at our Year 7 Bikeability training, where a record 32 pupils took part in the nationally recognised cycling proficiency programme.

Over four days, students developed the skills and confidence to ride safely on today's roads, learning everything from essential bike control on the school site to navigating local roads in small groups.

Our pupils received fantastic feedback from the Bikeability instructors, who praised their positive attitude, willingness to learn and exemplary behaviour throughout the course.

Congratulations to everyone who took part. You represented Bridgewater brilliantly and should be proud of everything you achieved!

Congratulations to Mrs Hilton on her fantastic achievement at the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run last month.

A dedicated runner, Mrs Hilton was proud to be part of the Solgar Pacer Team – an inspiring group of runners who help guide, motivate and pace thousands of participants across the finish line.

As part of the event, she also had the incredible opportunity to meet one of her sporting heroes, Double Olympic Champion Dame Kelly Holmes, who is an ambassador for Solgar. Solgar has partnered with the Great Run Series to encourage people of all ages to embrace active lifestyles.

We're delighted to celebrate Mrs Hilton's achievement and this memorable experience. Well done!
