📚 Library etiquette: making the Library a better place for all of us

We asked our student team how to keep the Library a nice place for everyone - from not claiming a study space with your bag while you are somewhere else, to keeping the volume down in quiet areas 🤫

Plus: don’t leave food unattended, and please give your rubbish the right bin to call home 🗑️

Basically, share the space, respect the space, and don’t let your bag become a long term tenant 🎒

The University of Manchester Library celebrates Black History Month and its 2026 theme, ‘Honouring our Communities’.

Did you know, the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre and Education Trust, based in Central Library, holds collections and archives regarding local Black community history? These include:

*The Roots Oral History Project; 26 life story interviews with members of the Manchester African and Caribbean communities in the 1980s and 1990s.
*Six audio interviews marking the 1995 50th Anniversary of the Pan African Congress (which was held in Manchester in 1945).
*The Exploring our Roots interviews, including transcripts, audio, photographic and visual resources, that record the life stories of people across Manchester.
