Today I'd like to start talking with you about Italian idioms with colours. We use quite a few expressions with different colours, each one to describe a different situation.

The first one is:
ESSERE AL VERDE.💰💳💸

'Verde' means green, so it literally means 'to be at the green (side/part), but this idiom means instead

TO BE FLAT BROKE.

Why do we use this colour ? ⚃
There are different reasons, all related to green as a sign of poverty back in time or as the final part of a candle used to time events.🕯
When the candle had burnt out, you could see this green part.

In Italy summer has kicked off last month and with it also our summer hits!

Did you know that every year few summer hits are out to help making good memories of our holidays? And of course to let us dance and have fun!
These songs are being played by all radios and sung by most teenagers and young people- not only 😜. The recurring theme is love - usually it's about a summer love story 😍!

Again I am suggesting this website/app if you want to practice your Italian with pop music, in my opinion one of the best way of learning a foreign language.

In Italian we say :

CE L'HANNO FATTA = they made it / they managed to win

CE LA FACCIO = I can do it, I manage to do something

FARCELA = to manage, to be able to do something

It is made by the verb FARE = to do + pronouns CI and LA.
These two pronouns give a different meaning to the verb FARE.
(CI becomes CE for phonetics reasons).
It's called a pronominal verb.
It is usually followed by A + infinitive verb.

In a question:

CE LA FAI A PORTARE LA VALIGIA? = Can you manage to carry the suitcase?

SÌ CE LA FACCIO = Yes I can manage.

This weekend a very important event / tv show in Italy has come to its end after nearly a week, it was the 'Festival di Sanremo'.

It's the main music contest in Italy for pop music and it's on every year, usually in February.👨‍🎤👩‍🎤

It has been running for 71 years!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This year for the first time it was in March and without audience in the theatre because of the pandemic.

Old and new singers get on stage with a brand new song, audience from home vote their favourite, plus a group of expert deliver other prices as well.

This year a very young rock band, has won the contest with the song "Zitti e buoni" ( = quiet and calm).
