Super Scientists in Prep 5 had the challenge to plan and complete an experiment to investigate the question - 'Do people who exercise a lot get their breath back more quickly after exercise?' πŸ€”

To start they found their resting heart rate by finding their pulse on different parts of their body (chest, neck, wrist). They then discussed what they would do to get their answer, and what must stay the same for it to be a fair test and gave their predictions. ❀️

The children went outside in the MUGA to run for 2 minutes at a time, then fed back to their partners our breaths for the following 7 minutes, in 1 minute increments. πŸ’¨β€οΈ

The children all had so much fun and got some varied answers whether their predictions were right or wrong based on their findings.

πŸ’›πŸ’š We love Science at Clarendon and believe in discovering learning for ourselves - keeping the magic of Science alive! πŸ’šπŸ’›

Clarendon Cottage Prep School’s Christmas fairies have been very busy tonight working their festive magic on our school! πŸ€©πŸŽ„πŸ§š

Prep 4 had a fun science lesson this afternoon! πŸ€©πŸ™ŒπŸ»

The children recapped their knowledge so far of nature including seed dispersal, root growth and animals eating plants/leaves. 🌱

The children then looked at different vegetables and to identify where they grow from looking specifically at the roots. The children had a plate of cut up veg on their table for them to analyse and draw. πŸ‘€

A great observation and knowledge lesson from all πŸ₯•πŸ₯¬πŸ‘πŸ½

Prep 4 had a wonderfully creative Science lesson where they explored seed dispersal! πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬

The children looked at the different forms of seed dispersal and how different plants and seeds can travel. They discussed different methods such as animals, water travel, humans and wind. 🌱

To finish their lesson they created their own dandelions made of clay to identify the seeds which travel through the wind! πŸ’¨

πŸ’›πŸ’š Excellent Science Prep 4 - we are sure that it will stick with you - and well done Miss Beekman! πŸ’šπŸ’›

The Junior children did a wonderful job in their Citizenship time writing these positive Christmas Tags - we hope that they will bring a moment of happiness throughout the festive period to those in need. Thanks for asking us to help out The Cottage Nursery! πŸ’›πŸ’š

As you know we try and support as many charities as possible and we have supported the homeless charity Two Brews for a number of years now. I want to say a huge thank you to all the children from our Prep School who have kindly made us some gift tags with a Christmas wish and a positive message on, which will be placed on the gifts given out at this year's homeless pop up event. We truly have the most kind hearted children here at Clarendon Cottage Preparatory School! 😍

πŸ€©πŸ™ŒπŸ» What a brilliant Class Assembly from Prep 2 (Reception) who confidently showed off their learning as part of Anti-Bullying Week. πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ€©

The children showed us what they had learnt whilst exploring the books Odd Dog Out πŸ• and The Rainbow Fish! 🌈🐠

🌟 The children have worked hard to explore the similarities and differences between themselves and their friends and to celebrate that everyone is unique. The Odd Dog Out story taught them that we should be proud and confident of who we are and let that shine out. 🌟

The children had created their own beautiful Rainbow Fish whose scales were covered with ways to be a good friend that the children made. There were so many brilliant ideas - we were so impressed by how compassionate all of our children are. πŸ₯°

The children then finished with a favourite song that encourages kindness, peace and love. What a beautiful message Prep 2. 🧑✌🏻

πŸ’šπŸ’› You all absolutely blew us away with your confidence in front of the whole school and your parents - next up - the Christmas Production! Well done Miss Taylor for putting together a lovely assembly. πŸ’›πŸ’š

🀩 What a lovely DT lesson completed by Prep 4 and the wonderful Miss Westby! 🀩

Within our Design and Technology unit the children are looking at 'Moving Pictures'', with a focus on Traditional Tales. πŸ“š

The clsss firstly looked at the meaning of a 'mechanism'. This is when different components act together to make an action take place. They then used the resources provided to make a 'slider'. The aim was to create something that showed the gingerbread man being chased by another character. 🫚🍞

πŸ’šπŸ’› All of the children listened incredibly well to the instructions and were able to follow a step by step method, even with some tricky cutting. Once they had made their product they then evaluated it, thinking what they found was good about it or what could be improved. Miss Westby was very impressed with the children's responses on how they could evolve their product. πŸ’›πŸ’š

All in all a super afternoon! Well done Prep 4! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Today our Prep 2 children had the chance to learn about the story of Rama and Sita - they had so many questions to ask! πŸ€—

They then had the opportunity to complete their own carefully detailed Diwa lamps - they really enjoyed bringing their colourful designs to life! πŸͺ”

πŸ’šπŸ’› We hope that everyone had a wonderful weekend celebrating Diwali - it was lovely hearing from our pupils and staff for whom this was a special celebration weekend! πŸ’›πŸ’š

πŸͺ” Happy Diwali to everyone celebrating in our community! πŸͺ”

πŸͺ–πŸŒΊ Today our Upper Junior children were honoured to attend a Remembrance service at Peel War Memorial. 🌺πŸͺ–

They joined a number of other schools from our local community, alongside the Mayor and an MP to commemorate all of the soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Our Head Boy and Head Girl delivered a reading with confidence and solemnity and we couldn’t be more proud of them. They were complimented by the Mayor for delivering their reading with poise. The memorial was also covered in poppies made by pupils throughout our whole school - amidst other contributions.

The children across school have all taken time to learn about the importance of Remembrance and the Poppy Appeal. Children have worn their poppy reflectors and badges with pride.

Our amazing Prep 4 children led a beautiful class assembly based on their learning β€˜War & Remembrance’ for the whole school and their parents. The children explained what Remembrance Day means, why it is important to remember and read us their beautiful original poems on what peace feels like to them. We all listened to Elgar’s Ni**od, the Last Post and Vera Lynn’s We’ll Meet Again. There were more than a few glistening eyes.

πŸ’›πŸ’š It has never felt more poignant to remember wars gone by, the immense human sacrifice, and use this as a reminder to not fight about our differences. To encourage discussions and communication to resolve our problems and find better ways to work together. πŸ’šπŸ’›

We will finish with the line from the Year 2 poem that really made Miss Bagnall’s voice wobble.

β€˜Peace feels like my Mummy tucking me in bed at night’.

Lest we forget. πŸŒ…

🀩 Well done to our super mathematicians in Prep 2 (Reception)! They have been busy exploring repeating patterns. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

πŸŒπŸ“πŸŒπŸ“ Today Miss Taylor created an engaging and scrumptious lesson for the group as they took their patterns into the real world with tasty repeat pattern fruit kebabs. What a lucky bunch they are! πŸ“πŸŒπŸ“πŸŒ

πŸ“ What super creative writing in Prep 2 (Reception) this week! The children have explored the appropriately themed Meg and Mog story. οΏΌπŸ§™β€β™€οΈπŸˆβ€β¬›

πŸ’›πŸ’š The children applied their brilliant phonics skills to write their own descriptive sentences using adjectives! The children all knocked Miss Taylor & Mr Sewell’s socks off with their fantastic spelling and superb letter formation! πŸ’šπŸ’›

They also got their creative heads on and made amazing pictures to go alongside their writing using a mix of media including oil pastels & collage! 🎨

Well done everyone! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Gourd-ness me! What a lot of fabulous pumpkins entered into our half term competition! πŸŽƒ

πŸ’šπŸ’› The pupils have certainly gotten creative this year - and rumour has it there were some fake lashes floating around! Once again the children have shown their community spirit and had lots of fun with this festive comp. πŸ’›πŸ’š

Miss Bagnall has looked at each one closely and will be announcing the winners in Friday’s Celebration Assembly. All children who entered have automatically gained 1 house point for their school houses and towards their own individual total - well done all! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬ We are so proud of two of our pupils - as part of Black History Month they asked if they could share their Nigerian culture with their peers. πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬

There was a fantastic presentation delivered by Karinate - who shared her family’s favourite food, Nigerian music and the geography of their family in Nigeria to name but a few things.

πŸ’œπŸ©΅ Both children wore their clothes from home to show what they wear to go to church and to celebrations - everyone loved the colours and patterns. πŸ©΅πŸ’œ

There was also a pop quiz of Nigerian Pidgin words - where everyone had to use the clues to work out what it meant. πŸ€”

Karinate also explained how the core Nigerian values are;

* hard work
* community
* respect
* justice

And we have to say these are certainly shared values with our school community - we can all aspire to these Nigerian values to keep developing ourselves to be better individuals and communities. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

They then took their presentation on the road - sharing it with Miss Bagnall & Miss Taylor - who felt a little on the back foot with a pop quiz with no prep! It is fair to say Karinate enjoyed putting the Head & Deputy to work - and it may have been a little competitive! πŸ˜…

πŸ’›πŸ’š The confidence and pride with which these two pupils shared their culture with their peers was amazing to see. Thank you for sharing with us Karinate & Nnanyereugo! πŸ’šπŸ’›

This was followed by a whole school celebration assembly learning all about Baroness Floella Benjamin. This year’s theme is β€˜Saluting our Sisters’ and Floella is an amazing example of someone who has made outstanding contributions as a writer, politician and TV Presenter. The children loved her story β€˜Coming to England’ which tells her personal story of moving from Trinidad to England and there was lots of thoughtful discussion about what this must have felt like and the impact it had on her life and of the importance of representation. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ€© Introducing this year’s wonderful Playground Buddies! πŸ€©πŸ™ŒπŸ»

This is a very important part of our community and is a big new responsibility. The Playground Buddy looks out for everyone on the playground and makes sure that their peers all have a game to join in with and someone to play with or talk to. They are a friend to all on the playground and are role models of kindness, fairness and friendship. πŸ‘¬πŸ‘«πŸ‘

πŸ₯° Whilst we could have chosen so many of our Prep 4 community - we feel that these children have really gone the extra mile in showing the qualities naturally over their time with us. We know that they will fulfil their new role beautifully. πŸ₯°

πŸ’›πŸ’š We are very proud of them all - we hope that every child knows they have always got a Buddy on the playground and someone to help make their day a little brighter when they need it! πŸ’šπŸ’›

🀩 Today was Prep 4s DT food day and what a day they had! 🀩

πŸ«πŸ“πŸŒπŸ‡πŸŠπŸπŸ They started their Design and Technology day by reviewing the lyrics of the β€˜Cauliflowers Fluffy’ song and identifying the fruit and vegetables within it. The children went on to decide whether these foods were grown above or below the ground. The children worked in pairs to look at each piece of fruit and veg and make their own decisions. πŸπŸπŸŠπŸ‡πŸŒπŸ“πŸ«

πŸ₯— After this everyone then began to think about how these foods can be mixed to make a salad.
The children all designed their own salads and wrote out their ingredients - even drawing what they hoped it would look like! πŸ“

Then this afternoon the children got bush chopping and prepping their salads carefully - each one was unique and their was some super presentation across the group! πŸ‘©β€πŸ³πŸ§‘β€πŸ³

πŸ’›πŸ’š Finally the best bit - eating and evaluating our fruit salads - they were SENSATIONAL! Well done Prep 4 and Miss Westby for a wonderful day. πŸ’šπŸ’›

πŸžπŸ“ Prep 2 continued their journey of the Little Red Hen today! They rolled up their sleeves and baked their own bread rolls following Little Red Hen’s hard work. πŸ“πŸž

βš–οΈ The children talked about what a recipe was and then looked at each piece of equipment - familiarising themselves with the names of the equipment and ingredients. Then the class mixed their own ingredients and helped to carefully measure the right amount. Our reception children observed the changes with the ingredients carefully and used words to describe what they could see. πŸ‘€

πŸ§‘β€πŸ³πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ The children absolutely loved kneading the dough and stretching it out. They were all fascinated at how much it had grown after one hour in the bowl! Finally the children rolled their dough into our own little bread rolls and couldn’t wait to taste! πŸ‘©β€πŸ³πŸ§‘β€πŸ³

When the bread was baked the children used their cutting skills carefully with the knives and chose our fillings - lots of jam and butter was the favourite! Yum yum πŸ˜‹

Well done everyone and well done Miss Taylor - worthy of a Hollywood handshake! 🀝

Today was our Prep 1 Class Assembly where we welcomed our family in to see what we have been learning all about it. πŸ₯°

πŸ©·β€οΈπŸ’› The final nursery children have been learning all about The Colour Monster and their emotions this week in honour of . The children shared their knowledge of emotions and how we identify these feelings. They then excitedly showed their families their Happy Jars full of what makes them feel good inside. πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ–€

The children then sang a class favourite - Beeathing In, Breathing Out - a song that helps us feel calm and centred! πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ§˜

The children have researched these crumbly, tasty treats over the week before designing their own scone. πŸ₯£

The children weighed and mixed their ingredients and followed instructions to bring together their scone. These were then baked before the bets bit - sampling! βš–οΈ

Prep 5 finished up with evaluating the success of their product and making suggestions for improvements. πŸ€”

πŸ’›πŸ’š Well done for this wonderful day Miss Beekman! πŸ’šπŸ’›

πŸ’šπŸ’› Wowsers - what amazing writing Prep 2! πŸ’›πŸ’š

Today our reception children have been working on the story writing language and focusing on our adjectives! ✏️

The children all drew their own Little Red Hen and wrote a sentence about their character - brilliant work everyone! πŸ“

The children also had the chance to use the malleable resources to create their own Little Red Hen - we love using our imagination to stimulate our creative juices and using our play dough to work our hand muscles. Did we mention it is lots of fun too?! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

πŸŽƒπŸ Today’s Art Club was Autumnal themed with a still life set up of Pumpkins! πŸπŸŽƒ

🎨 The children completed a 20min watercolour study of the still life arrangement. They were challenged to focus on form, colour, texture and composition as they created a realistic interpretation of the scene in the centre. 🎨

πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ¨πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨ Miss Bagnall has to say that she was so impressed by all of our talented pupils and there certainly some masterpieces created - what brilliant blossoming artists we have at Clarendon! πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ¨

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡ΌπŸͺ˜To celebrate Black History Month and World Mental Health today all of pupils experienced the joy of an African Drumming workshop with the amazingly talented Tongesta! πŸͺ˜πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡Ό

πŸ₯° WOW! What a beautiful, joyous and energetic session. So much joy came from this session with Tongesta! He brought along all of his djembe drums and even a Kora - an African guitar with 22 strings. πŸͺ•

🎢🎡 We listened carefully, we sang, we followed a rhythm and beat we absolutely loved it! Music is so wonderfully beneficial for our emotional well-being and mental health; it is something we can all access to help our mood and our self-expression. 🎡🎢

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡Ό Tongesta taught all the children about his home country of Zimbabwe as well as the 9 African languages he can speak - including languages with clicks which amazed all of the pupils. Tongesta also talked about his childhood growing up in Zimbabwe and how shared music and dance forms a central part to community. He taught the children an amazing song which encourages everyone to β€˜come and dance’ - the children have all gone home singing this chant! πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡Ό

As Tongesta said - in his village the saying was β€˜if you can talk you can sing, if you can walk you can dance’ πŸ™ŒπŸ»

πŸ’›πŸ’š We are so lucky to have had such a wonderful, enriching and informative day and we are very thankful to Tongesta for sharing this with us so beautifully. πŸ’šπŸ’›

Order in the court! βš–οΈ

What a brilliant few days in Prep 6 this week. The children are studying Crime & Punishment in their History lessons which they have been thoroughly enjoying. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

πŸ”Ž One of our wonderful parents who works in the legal system and courts offered to come in and spend an afternoon with the children for experience. Mrs Moore - never one to miss an opportunity - staged a 'whodunnit' implicating one of our teachers as a thief! πŸ”

πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ The children walked into a live crime scene on Tuesday afternoon and had to use their Science and deductive skills to work out which teacher they believe had committed the crime of stealing Mrs Moore's laptop. Goodness me, these children are superb interrogators! πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™€οΈ

The children investigated the evidence carefully and even made their own fingerprints to inspect. They then had to build a strong case. The wonderful Rebecca then became the judge in the our classroom courtroom and listened to the children's cases before making her judgement based off the children's submissions. πŸ€”

πŸ’›πŸ’š The children then got time to talk with Rebecca and ask questions about modern crime and punishment. It was an amazing learning opportunity and we are so thankful to our community for supporting us - this parental workshop has really engaged and inspired the children - thank you Rebecca! A huge thank you to Mrs Moore for your dedication and imagination too! πŸ’šπŸ’›

We wonder if anyone else has a skill or job that they would like to share with us in school? πŸ‘€πŸ₯°

πŸ”’ Numbers, numbers, numbers! πŸ”’

Our Reception children absolutely love exploring numeracy and it is certainly a favourite focused learning activity daily. The children are already stretching their number knowledge and working at their own understanding - a wonderful part of small classes with a tailored, personal education. πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ€©

πŸ’›πŸ’š So much fun and so much learning! πŸ’šπŸ’›

🌍 Prep 5 (Year 3) have had a brilliant Science session where they learnt all about the the layers of planet Earth. 🌍

The children created their own Layers of the Earth dessert pot with each layer representing the different layers of earth. The children were so excited to tell Miss Bagnall about each level. πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ€©

What’s your favourite animal? πŸ€”

Prep 2 (Reception) had lots of fun in the Computer Suite this afternoon researching their favourite animals! πŸ’πŸ¦‘πŸ¦ˆπŸŠπŸ¦§πŸ†πŸ¦’

The children learnt how to navigate the internet safely and used a child safe search engine called Kiddle. They also had to navigate the screen using the mouse, click the right buttons and type their animals into the search bar! Phew - what a lot of skills! πŸ’»βŒ¨οΈπŸ

πŸ’šπŸ’› The children returned back to class buzzing with their new facts and certainly found their time on the computers very engaging indeed. Well done everyone! πŸ’›πŸ’š

πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎ Gardening Club πŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ

🌱 Extending our theme of Harvest our children who attend Gardening Club at lunchtime helped to plant a winter crop of onions! 🌱

πŸ§…πŸ§… They closely observed the onions and worked out which way up they needed to plant them and set to work following the instructions of how to set them out (the Juniors a little more successfully! πŸ˜…). πŸ§…πŸ§…

We look forward to seeing the onions grow and they will be harvested next Spring! πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎπŸ§…

πŸ’šπŸ’› It is so important that children learn what goes into putting food on the table and for them to connect with nature and growing. So much learning is covered throughout theses sessions in ways that is engaging and fun - aswell as all the additional skills relating to working collaboratively, building their communication and working to solve real life problems. We can’t wait for next week! πŸ’›πŸ’š

🍎🍏 Harvesting the apples! 🍏🍎

Today was the day our EYFS children harvested the apples from our very own apple tree! It is so important for the children to see where our food comes from and watch the journey from seed to fruit/veg. πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘¨β€πŸŒΎ

🌟 The children loved climbing inside the tree finding every last juicy ripe apple - they successfully harvested all apples from the tree and we have a whole bucket of them! 🌟

We wonder what the children will make with the apples next week? Any guesses? πŸ€”

πŸ”’ Our children love nothing more than being given a challenge and being able to move around in the fresh air - so why not make it a chance to work on our number recognition, subtilising, counting and formation skills! πŸ”’

Prep 1 (Final Nursery) went on a number hunt - armed with their own notebooks and pencils they recorded the numbers they found hidden around the playground. πŸ“

Prep 2 (Reception) had lots of fun matching numeral to quantity as they counted the correct number of pebbles into the plant pots. Miss Taylor also covered the ground in numbers for the children and they enjoyed jumping and hopping to the correct one! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

πŸ’›πŸ’š Super learning EYFS - well done! πŸ’šπŸ’›

πŸ‚πŸ Harvest Festival! πŸπŸ‚

🌽 Don’t forget that tomorrow is the last day of our Harvest Collection ahead of our assembly. 🌽

This year we are once again partnering with Salford Foodbank to donate vital supplies to families in need. We are conscious that times are tight and therefore your help is needed more than ever before. We appreciate every single donation and know it will be put to great use. πŸ₯°
