On International Women’s Day, I’ve been thinking about the women who made me.

A teacher who saw something in me when I didn’t see it myself.

A great aunt who showed me what it looks like to live life entirely on your own terms.

Poets and writers who proved that women’s voices belong at the centre of the story.

And yes — a fictional redhead who taught me more than she’ll ever know.

Swipe to meet them. 💛

These women taught me that your story can be your power. That’s what I try to bring into every session with my students.

Happy International Women’s Day to every woman reading this.

Because as Audre Lorde said: I am not free while any woman is unfree.

Who’s a woman who shaped you? I’d love to know in the comments. 👇

Question 3 is worth 8 marks - but many students avoid it completely. 😣

Why? Because analysing language techniques across an entire text feels overwhelming when anxiety kicks in.

Here’s the approach I teach that reduces panic and gets results:

Start with what’s manageable. Your child should focus on the opening and closing paragraphs first - find language devices in those sections.

If there’s time left, they can add an example from the middle.

But if stress levels are high? Those first and last sections alone will earn them marks.

The goal isn’t perfection - it’s attempting the question rather than leaving it blank.

⏱️ This question should take 10-12 minutes.

Sometimes the best exam strategy is simply knowing what’s “good enough” to move forward.

What’s YOUR child’s biggest writing challenge?

Blank page panic? Structure struggles? Running out of time?

In my workshops, we tackle the real challenges anxious students face with GCSE English writing - not just the academic stuff, but the feelings that come with it too.

Because here’s what I know from 5 years of tutoring: when you understand what examiners are looking for AND have strategies to manage the anxiety, everything changes.

That powerless feeling when you’re staring at the blank page? We work through it.

Those ideas floating around with no structure? We organise them.

That clock ticking away? We make every minute count.

This is what the Tutor-Coach Approach is all about - combining examiner insight with practical anxiety management so your teen can actually show what they know.

Is your teen free tomorrow evening from 6-7pm?

“The writer uses powerful adjectives to describe the setting.” ❌

This is what most students write for Paper 1 Q2. And it gets them nowhere.

Here’s what examiners actually want to see:

✅ WHY did the writer choose those specific words?
✅ What do they make YOU feel or imagine as a reader?
✅ Don’t just name the technique - dig into the EFFECT it creates.

That’s the difference between technique-spotting (low marks) and actual analysis (higher marks).

Your child already knows the techniques. They need to learn how to analyse them properly.

That’s what I teach on my Stressed to Success programme 💜

Your Year 11 doesn’t need to use every persuasive technique they’ve ever learned.

They need to choose 3-4 and actually master them.

The difference between a grade 4 and a grade 6?

Not MORE techniques. BETTER use of techniques.

Rhetorical questions that land. Emotive language that feels authentic. Statistics that actually support the argument. Not a forced checklist where they throw everything at the page and hope something sticks.

Join me on Tuesday 10th Feb, 6-7pm - I’m teaching the persuasive writing structure and techniques that actually work.

Live. Free. With practice and feedback.

Perfect for anxious students at grades 4-5 who are capable of so much more.

Does your child’s mind go blank when they open English Language paper 1?

Here’s something that might help: Question 1 is now multiple choice - the answer is literally right there, they just need to spot it.

Think of it like being a detective… 🔍

The examiners have given them three options.

Your teen’s job? Find the evidence in the text that proves which one is correct.

Four, hopefully easy marks = instant confidence boost = less exam anxiety.

That’s the goal. And that matters more than you might think.

Follow for more exam tips that actually reduce stress (not add to it). 💡

“Mum, I worked really hard on this - why did I only get a 4?” 😩

Here’s what’s probably happened: your child wrote three pages of arguments when the question asked them to persuade teenagers to volunteer.

And yes, they put in the effort - but more words doesn’t always mean more marks.

The students getting 6s+? They’re often writing half as much, but their arguments are laser-focused on what will actually persuade that specific audience.

Here’s what strategic persuasive writing looks like:
✅ Identify the specific audience (teenagers, not adults)
✅ Plan 3-4 targeted arguments that will connect with THEM
✅ Use techniques that speak to that audience
✅ Done. ✨

Want your child to learn exactly how to write focused, confident persuasive answers?
