Celebrations at the Palace ✨
We were delighted to hear that a group of WGS alumnae recently attended the prestigious Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award celebration at Buckingham Palace.
Ms Kusznir, our DofE Coordinator, had the pleasure of meeting the returning alumnae at the event, catching up on their journeys and sharing in their achievements. It’s always inspiring to see former students continuing to embody the commitment and adventurous spirit that the Award represents.
Adding to the excitement, Ms Kusznir is taking part in a sponsored walk to celebrate 70 years of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – a programme that WGS students, past and present, have been actively involved in for decades. 🌟

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of much-loved TV presenter Judith Chalmers, an alumna of Withington Girls’ School who maintained close connections with us over the years. It is heartening to see the tributes and her many achievements celebrated in the national media, as she, and her late sister Sandra, were always a source of pride and inspiration to us all at Withington. Our thoughts are with Judith’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved her at this difficult time.

Upper II’s York Adventure ✨
Our Year 6s also went on a residential this half-term enjoying the rich history and culture of York. From exploring the Viking Museum to stepping back in time at Eden Camp, their visit was filled with fascinating discoveries and hands-on learning.
As their final WGS Juniors residential, it was a special opportunity to reflect, explore and create lasting memories with friends before the next exciting chapter begins. 🏰📚✨

Fun and friendship in the great outdoors! 🌄
Earlier this term, Year 5 visited the Peak District for a week of pursuing outdoor challenges and enjoying quality time together. It was a fantastic opportunity to build friendships, boost confidence and create lasting memories, all while building forts and weaselling through rock formations. 🏕️

Brilliant work from WGS Juniors! 👏
150 WGS Junior pupils took part in Bebras, an annual problem-solving challenge focused on computational thinking, where their logic and reasoning are put to the test.💡
Over a quarter of our girls achieved a Gold award, given only to those placing in the top 10% nationally in their age group. 🥇
This year, 3.9 million students across 80+ countries took part, including 526,915 participants in the UK!
With awards ranging from participation to distinction, these results highlight the exceptional performance and dedication of all our pupils, significantly outperforming regional and national averages.
A huge congratulations to everyone! 🎉

Creativity with purpose 🌸✨
On Friday, our Year 12 Young Enterprise team took to the North West Showcase at the University of Salford, competing against 7 other companies after winning the Greater Manchester regional round. From pitching their business and showcasing their products to impressing the judges, the team were awarded the Creativity prize for their exceptional ideas and designs.
Even more meaningful is the impact beyond the competition. This past week, the team connected with VICTA, a charity supporting children and young people who are blind or partially sighted. VICTA loved the team’s Braille cards, praising the research and authenticity behind them, and will now share them with their parent network of over 1,000 families.
A truly heart warming moment came when a University of Salford student ambassador bought cards for her father, explaining how rare it is to find Braille on greetings cards.
A genuinely unique idea making a real difference. We couldn’t be prouder! 🌟
Well done, Paper Bloom Cards! 👏

Even more impressively, this team has now won their age group tournament three years in a row, showing incredible consistency, determination and Withington spirit from the very start 👏💙.
Well done girls!

Inside life as an MP 🏛️
Jeff Smith, Member of Parliament for Manchester Withington, joined us in school today to share insight into the life and role of an MP, as well as his journey from councillor to Parliament and even his time in the music industry. 💬
Students asked a range of thoughtful and insightful questions on current affairs. It was a brilliant opportunity for our pupils to learn more about politics, leadership and making a difference in the community. 🌟
Thank you, Jeff.
