On Friday 22nd May, the students in Year 11 took part in our annual shirt signing event. We were blessed with wonderful weather, which definitely helped to create a fantastic, celebratory atmosphere across the school field.

During the morning, the students signed each other’s shirts to create a marvellous ‘keepsake’ to always remember their time at Trinity, sharing messages, memories and well wishes, and some also took part in games of five-a-side football.

We even had our first ever shirt signing dance-off to the tune of Billie Jean, much to everyone’s amusement. Thank you to Lloyd and Jeovanis for this new addition to an already brilliant ‘rite of passage’.

Last Friday, the year 12 Acting students completed their unit 2 exam performance of 'My mother said I never should' written by Charlotte Keatley. They did an hour long performance mainly influenced by the practitioners Stanislavski and Frantic assembly, taking the audience through 4 different journey's of Motherhood. Thea, Elizabeth, Ayana and Iris had been working on the performance since January, creating believable and memorable characters. Their performance included the audience and ensured they experienced the emotions alongside the characters. Well done on creating such an emotive, engaging and successful performance!

On Friday 24th April, we had an exciting visit from the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham. He spoke to our Sixth Formers who are studying Politics and History, Year 11s taking Politics next year, Student Councillors, as well as a Year 10 English class and Sixth Form Students of Criminology and Sociology.

He delivered a powerful talk on his journey into, and during his career in, Politics citing particularly how the injustice surrounding the Hillsborough disaster affected him personally and politically. His talk was really honest and inspirational, and his care for us as young people and the future of Greater Manchester was clear.”

Mr Burnham stayed afterwards to answer many of our questions and take photos with us. Questions ranged from the upcoming local elections and how Labour losses could impact the city, to safety on Public Transport and to his favourite Manchester music.

It was a brilliant opportunity for us to see the person behind the politics and understand the man who shapes so much of Greater Manchester today

Mr Richardson and fifteen of our Year 7 writers travelled all the way to the prestigious University of Cambridge to attend this year’s First Story Young Writers Festival with over 300 other students from across the country. They met author A.M. Dassu and Jack was on the panel of four students who interviewed her in front of the assembled attendees. The students also worked on writing and performance with poet Sophie Harham, and were given a tour of Newnham College by a Cambridge student ambassador, and then closed the day with a showcase of readings.

On April 4th, students and staff at Trinity Sixth Form came together to celebrate the diverse cultures that make our community so special. We are incredibly proud of our diverse heritage and Culture Day is a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the students and families that make our Sixth Form outstanding. The day was a colourful mix of traditional clothing, delicious food, and lively music, giving everyone a chance to connect, learn, and experience something new.

Ms Tattum, Director of Sixth Form said, “This is my favourite day of the year. Culture Day is more than just an event, it is a powerful celebration of unity and acceptance. All of the students look forward to this event every year and their enthusiasm and passion are what make Trinity Sixth Form more than just a place to study—it’s a place to grow, belong, and flourish.”

On Monday 2nd March, 29 of our students joined schools from across the region at the Lowry for the First Story Young Writers Festival NORTH. The day featured a talk from creator of the Sad Ghost Club graphic novels, Lize Meddings (Zea in Y9 was on the interview panel), workshops with professional writers (two of whom were once students at Trinity), creative careers insights, a book market and author signings. Proceedings closed with a showcase in which some of our young writers took the stage to share their creations.

The core of this group meets weekly with our writer-in-residence, Nik Berry. They’re hard at work on a 16-week programme writing a book which will be published at the end of the summer term – Trinity's third! Besides becoming published authors, they’ll have the opportunity to visit the University of Cambridge in late April, and one student could follow in the footsteps of Sam W and Eliana O and win a place on a week-long writing residential in the summer.
