The Job Gym

Funded Programmes Enabling People to Thrive in Life and Work It will develop your skills to apply for jobs, and prepare for and take part in interviews.

When you first come to the Job Gym you will be offered an Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) appointment and an Initial Skills Assessment where we will provide you with impartial information about what courses and qualifications may be suitable for your needs. Your programme will start with an Edexcel Level 1 Award in Work Skills which will help you to identify great job opportunities and tell

you what qualifications employers are looking for when they hire someone. It will also help you to identify further training and development you may need to succeed in the job you are looking for. Should you need to brush up on your literacy and numeracy to get the job you are after you can take an OCR Certificate in Basic Skills at either: Level 1 (equivalent to GCSE D grade) Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE A-C grade) The level you aim for and the amount of coaching you get depends on the level of skills you already have. We will give you an online assessment to see which level would be right for you. You will then select a Skills Booster course that will prepare you to get a job in a sector that is constantly recruiting new staff.

Last Friday, we were joined by Transport Consultant, Sami Bowler CMILT👷🏼‍♀️🚛💨

Sami shared an inspiring insight into her career journey, from starting out in an administrative role within the family business to becoming a successful Transport Manager and running her own consultancy.

She also answered a range of engaging questions and spoke openly about her experiences as a woman working in a male-dominated industry. It was fascinating to learn how her career has evolved and how the role and perception of women in logistics have changed over time.

Thank you, Sami, for such an insightful and inspirational talk. Our Professional Driver Programme residents certainly left feeling motivated and inspired by your journey.
