Our group of students from Notre Dame is on the ground in PERU! This group is learning about sustainability and indigenous rights while doing service-learning projects and spending time with Quechua-speaking communities.

Quechua-speaking communities are indigenous people who have preserved Andean culture through their language and customs. These communities are typically in rural, mountainous settings in Peru and the surrounding Andean countries.

Volunteering is where it all started for Kaya. On Volunteer Recognition Day we want to shed some light on why our volunteers and the communities we serve are so important to us.

Kaya is fully committed to creating the perfect match between volunteer and organization. We want each volunteer use and grow their skills while properly supporting a cause in the developing world, and fully experiencing a new and exciting culture.

So on Volunteer Recognition Day, we want to recognize the thousands of Kaya volunteers over the years who have had a positive impact on the people and the environments who hosted them. Thank you all!

If volunteering abroad has ever been on your heart, we encourage you to check out what it's like to volunteer abroad on a Kaya placement πŸ™‚ https://hubs.la/Q02tw4vp0

Happy Khmer New Year! For 3 days, Cambodia celebrates their solar new year and the vibrance of Cambodian culture by filling the streets with colorful festivities. One of the most important traditions associated with Khmer New Year is pouring water. It's symbolic of cleansing and purification, and is believed to wash away the sins and bad luck of the previous year. As part of this tradition, people will be wielding water guns and spraying all around town. So if you're out on the streets of Phnom Penh of Siem Reap around this time, it might be best to wear a swimsuit and protect those electronics.

Kaya sends interns and volunteers to Cambodia each year to make an impact on the communities of and around Siem Reap.

Swipe through for some photos and read what it's like to be a Classroom and Child Care Assistant in Cambodia with Kaya Responsible Travel.
