Preston Oncology Society (POS) is a student-led society consisting of University of Manchester medical students based at the Royal Preston Hospital, first established in 2016. The main aim of the society is to bring the field of Oncology into the spotlight, highlighting exciting opportunities to get involved and learn more about cancer. The society was last active in 2017, and in 2021/22, the Society is back with a new committee of enthusiastic students. As a society, we hope to:
- Promote Oncology as a desirable specialty for students
- Deliver educational and insightful events for students to explore Oncology outside of the standard curriculum
- Offer unique opportunities for students to get involved in Oncology and research
- Showcase the work of Manchester/Preston clinicians working in cancer research
- Raise awareness for organisations working to support cancer research and patients affected by cancer, and support them through fundraising
- Destigmatize Oncology as a ‘depressing’ specialty and instead highlight the innovation and excitement within the field
We are a member of the Royal College of Radiologists' Undergraduate Oncology Societies Association and are in affiliation with Manchester Medical Society (MedSoc).
