What makes the teaching at Chetham’s special? 💡
Cellist and longstanding Chetham’s tutor Gillian Thoday believes that it starts with understanding – meeting a student ‘where they are’ and tailoring lessons to the individual.

With over 40 years’ experience in teaching and an illustrious career performing with world-renowned orchestras, Gillian is an inspiration to her students. Alumni successes! 📣 It is always amazing to hear from our alumni and celebrate their achievements. Here are a few of our recent alumni updates:

👉 Alumnus Daniel Harding will join the LA Phil as its Music Director starting in the 2027-28 season, spearheading the LA Phil’s evolving artistic leadership team. Daniel is currently Music Director of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

👉 The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) brought its 74th Annual Music Competition to Wigmore Hall and we're thrilled for flautist and recent Chet’s alumna Sofía Patterson-Gutiérrez who was awarded the 2026 Gold Medal and £15,000.

👉 You can also now watch the new Jack Ryan: Ghost War film on Amazon Prime featuring alumnus Max Beesley, who plays the role of Liam Crown, a former M16 operative who is fighting against the ghost war!
