It’s been nearly 5 years since I hit an actual real proper strength PB.
There have been PB’s but they have been a ‘post-traumatic leg surgery PB’ or ‘post-having a baby at the age of 40 PB.’
I have always been super stoked to improve and get these PB’s but there is always that little bit in my mind comparing it to my former, younger self!!
A lot a patience and hard work resulted in an actual all time strength PB today. I have a big smile on my face 😁
Thanks to for his patience, programming and smart coaching- knowing when to push me and knowing when to rein me in.
And a big thank you to for always being there to fix my niggles. She honestly is a magician, I couldn’t recommend her more.

Hi folks, thought it was time for a quick intro for anyone that’s new to this page.
I’m Sam, aka Sam Davies Chiro • Manc, UK] and owner of .
I am what I would describe as a ‘Functional Fitness Chiropractor’, meaning that my speciality and absolute passion lies in helping Functional Fitness Athletes.
I help them to ‘Move Well, Train Safe & Stay Injury Free’.
As someone that has done CrossFit for around 7 years, my passion grew organically.

This was a new one for me - Owen loves his skating! But many falls over the years have definitely taken their toll and he came to me with recurrent back pain which started after a bad one 2-3 years ago.
It was much better than it was at the time, but certain things still triggered it.
Owen’s main goal…. ‘To be able to fall without worrying’ 😂
A few adjustments later, along with some breathing and postural re-education and he no longer gets pain after skating, and more importantly…after falling! 🙌

What makes me different from a traditional Chiropractor?
There’s a few things really!
But I’d say the biggest difference is that I don’t just adjust.
Our sessions together are heavily rehab based, which is why they are longer than a traditional Chiropractic appointment.
Yes, you’ll get ‘the crack’, and you’ll also get a good dose of different soft tissue techniques, depending on what it is you come in with.
But I don’t want you to be reliant on what I can do for you, I want you to take an active role in your recovery, and to become reliant on what you can do for you.
Educating, and giving you the tools you need to aid recovery and keep yourselves well is what it’s all about for me.

Did you know that I do Dry-Needling as well?
Chiropractic itself plays quite a small (but powerful) part in the actual treatment itself.
An adjustment takes seconds. At , I do 30 minute follow up appointments. And there’s a reason for that.
My treatments incorporate not just chiropractic, but soft tissue techniques including dry-needling, ART, trigger point therapy and deep tissue massage, as well as a good dose of rehab in almost every session.
The mechanism of action of Dry-Needling is still under scrutiny; however, it is thought that it works by:
▪️Eliciting a local twitch response which:
* Relaxes the bonds in a tight muscle
* Causes local analgesia
▪️Stimulates inhibitory pain pathways in the nervous system
▪️Regulates the levels of several chemicals released during inflammation
DOES DRY-NEEDLING HURT?
The needles used for dry-needling are extremely fine and sometimes patients report not feeling them going in at all.
However, when placed directly into a trigger point or a muscle that is in spasm, a local twitch response can occur which can be temporarily uncomfortable for the patient.
It is thought that the greater the twitch response, the greater the improvement 🙌

Time for some Hip Flexor Re-Education.
▪️We spend so much of our lives sitting that it’s no surprise that our hip flexors become chronically tight and overactive.
▪️Along with an inefficient Stabilization strategy, this can contribute to the well known ‘anterior pelvic tilt’.
▪️How will you be able to tell if you have an inefficient Stabilization strategy and overactive hip flexors?
▪️Lie on your back with your hips and knees bent, then lift your feet off the floor. If you feel your pelvis tilt forwards and your lower back lift off the floor, you are demonstrating an inefficient Stabilization strategy, and that your hip flexors are doing all the work. This could be a reason why they are feeling chronically tight.
▪️This is something that needs to be rectified as somewhere down the line, could potentially contribute to lower back pain and other issues.

Your ability to push overhead without problems depends on a few things.
1️⃣ Your ability to create an optimal brace/stabilization strategy
2️⃣ Your ability to keep your ribs and pelvis connected.
3️⃣ Your ability to flex, externally rotate and abduct your shoulders overhead, without compensating anywhere else.
4️⃣ Your ability to move and extend through your thoracic spine, without compensating anywhere else.

Do you have a painful/stiff/rounded upper back?
Make sure you follow Sam Davies Chiro • Manc, UK] ‘s posts this upcoming week for my ‘7 Day Thoracic Spine Re-Education Series’, and hit the save button as I’ll be bringing you a series of exercises that you can do to help ease your troubles.
Your thoracic spine is meant to be mobile. Yes it has a natural curvature to it. But it wasn’t meant to be ‘fixed in Flexion’.
Modern day living unfortunately promotes this posture, and given enough time…our upper backs become ‘fixed’.
Initially…this is mainly a body awareness issue.
Basically, our brains forget how to extend, and how to dissociate this movement from extension of the lower back and flexion of the shoulders…which can ultimately lead to lower back and shoulder issues funnily enough.
Not great for Overhead Squats/Snatches/Jerks 😂
Do something about this today, before this becomes not only an issue with brain-body connection, but also a structural problem which prevents you from being able to the movement full stop.
Body awareness is key 🔑
Day 1 - Give the ‘DNS Low Quadruped’ position a go to retrain body awareness and thoracic spine dissociation.
