Natalie presented at a Salford and Trafford Networking Event yesterday. She spoke about the importance of a supportive and flexible procedure when children begin their early years journey, collecting, observing and building on children's "starting points" and the positive impact of home visits.

Kids Start is a partner in the North West Stronger Practice Hub and today had a visit from Jo, Gill and Sarah. Jo works for the Stronger Practice Hub and Gill and Sarah for the National Children’s Bureau. It was an absolute pleasure to give them a tour of Kids Start, share information about support for children and families and talk about how we work with the Stronger Practice Hub. As always, we saw children splashing in puddles, exploring messy play and singing nursery rhymes, all supported by our wonderful team 💜

My name is Natalie and I am the Head of Service and Development at Kids Start Training and Consultancy.

I have worked with children since the age of 17 and have a passion for quality early education. I hold a BA Hons in Professional Development in Early Years. I am an experienced Designated Safeguarding Lead and am qualified to deliver Level 2 and 3 Safeguarding training.

I have been privileged to be an Early Years Manager for over 12 years. In 2018, I joined Kids Start Day Nursery as the Nursery Manager. Kids Start was opened in 2014 by Joanne and Shirley, who had worked for Manchester Council for several years and had a wealth of experience. Kids Start received a GOOD Ofsted judgement in 2014 and already had a fantastic ethos. My focus when I joined Kids Start was to support a growing team to provide the best possible care and education for the children and families accessing the setting. I carefully evaluated where the setting and practitioners were confident and where support needed to be planned and worked with the team to create focused action plans. In March 2019, Kids Start was graded OUTSTANDING by Ofsted. This was a fantastic achievement and I was incredibly proud of my amazing team. After the inspection, we continued to grow and develop and in January 2023 I led my second Ofsted inspection for Kids Start, I am delighted to say we achieved OUTSTANDING again.

Kids Start Day Nursery is a Hub Partner for the Bright Futures Northwest Early Years Stronger Practice Hub. Launched by the DfE as part of the Early Years recovery programme, to support nurseries and childminders to achieve the very best outcomes for young children. I have had the pleasure of sharing first-hand experiences of the current challenges in the Early Years, writing best practice blogs and supporting the development of speech and language training materials.

I truly believe that training and mentoring Early Years Practitioners is key to high-quality settings. Kids Start Training and Consultancy offers a range of bespoke and supportive services to guide settings to reach their full potential.
