❤️ British Heart Week: 7th–15th June
This week, we join the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in raising awareness of cardiovascular disease, which remains responsible for 1 in 4 deaths in the UK. The campaign highlights the importance of early detection, prevention and the life‑saving research transforming heart health.
At the School of Medical Sciences, our students, researchers and clinicians contribute to pioneering work that advances understanding of cardiovascular disease and improves outcomes for patients across the UK.
🎥 Watch the short BHF video via the link in our Linktree to see why this work matters.
Together, we can raise awareness and support the science that protects every heartbeat.

Acute Myeloid Leukaemia Awareness Day was on 21st April, and it is a great opportunity to highlight the amazing work student volunteers are doing to support people affected by Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) and other blood cancers. For many patients, a stem cell transplant can be a crucial part of treatment, but finding a matching donor isn’t always easy, which is why awareness of the stem cell register matters all year round. 🩸🥼
Across more than 70 universities, Marrow groups have helped recruit over 200,000 potential stem cell donors. Here at Manchester, both Manchester Marrow and the Manchester Stem Cell Society contribute to this national effort through awareness events, fundraising and helping students learn more about donor registration. Their work shows how powerful student led action can be in supporting patients who need a match!💓
If you are aged 16–30, you can join the stem cell register and it starts with a simple cheek swab. If you are interested in joining the stem cell register, view the link in our Linktree. 💌
