Congratulations to Olivia and Joey for completing just over a year of dedicated training and achieving their first grade of 9th Kyu. And also a huge leap forward for Sandika who's stalwart dedication and teaching moves him up to 2nd Dan. Keep going and thank you for your support
This drill, Sen Undo (ahead/straight exercise), is another great way to work on and improve your defensive movements, regardless of your rank. Start slow, perfect technique, increase speed, then play with alternate angles and the number/type of attacks.
Repetition is great for muscle memory. This simple exercise gets students to repetitively practice their defensive angling and distance.
Learning the basics, and doing them well, is better than practicing multiple variations.

Sunday, swords and sunshine.
A small excerpt from last weekend's class on tai sabaki (body movement). What better way to start a Sunday! There will be more movement drills this weekend, designed to get your angling down to a fine art before we get back on the mats!

All set up and ready for our members only online class, Kobudō in the Kitchen.
Week 2 of looking at the Sanshin no Kata and how to translate the movements into weapons training.
We are still training via online classes throughout lockdown. Every Sunday 10-11am
Repition is a vital component of improvement. Focusing on one small detail of a technique, rather than the technique as a whole, will give you a stronger foundatiuon in your chosen field. In this case, the angle and placement of my right hand to deliver a smooth, and perfectly vertical draw. Sometimes it is worth sweating the small stuff.
Front Breakfall Progression. Falling or being thrown is never nice! So when learning to break fall, start as close to the ground as you can, then build up your confidence and work on variations.
