Year 3 (Owls Class) thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Lancashire Mining Museum on Thursday. They went on a train ride; examined fossils; toured the site; met the blacksmith; listened to a real-life miner in the lamp room; visited the miner's cottage and marvelled at the engine room!

It was a fantastic day of historical and scientific learning! Thank you to all the volunteers at the museum and to our school governors who helped on the trip!

On Friday, Year 3 (Owls Class) enjoyed their local walk adventure with Mrs Taziker! We had a wonderful morning exploring Mosley Common, looking carefully at the geography of the local area. The children asked excellent enquiry-based questions throughout the morning and drew their own transect map of Mosley Common. We discussed the different types of houses, land use and history of the surrounding area of our school. We even stopped off at church for a look inside as well. Thank you to Mrs Taziker who led us on our tour! Well done Year 3.

Year 1 had a wonderful week during our Health Week!
We learnt about our teeth and how important it is to brush them twice a day. We sorted foods that are good for our teeth and those that aren't as good. We planned healthy meals after learning about different food groups.
Yoga and relaxation was a highlight each day in our classroom and we learnt the importance of exercise as well as rest. However the most exciting day was when 'Ninja Warriors' visited us. We all had a go on the obstacle course and challenged our selves! We learnt to be resilient if we don't succeed!

On Wednesday, St John's pupils took part in World Environment Day!
Each class marched around the playground, shouting loudly about their chosen rainforest animal. The passion from everyone was clear to see and we are sure that everyone's voice was heard. We then came back into the hall and found out about each class's animal. We finished the day off with Mrs Taziker, our Chair of Governors, sharing her South American adventures with us.
What a fantastic day!
Well done St John's! 😊😊😊

Well done to our Year 2 children who took part in ATSA's Key Stage One Poetry Performance. The children performed "On the Ning Nang Nong" and "As soon as Fred gets out of bed" in front of an audience. They also enjoyed hearing the guest poet, Louise Fazackerley at The Snug in Atherton. Well done to our wonderful Year 2 children and their families for supporting so well.

Did you know that 98% of animals are invertebrates? Y4 were shocked too! We went on an invertebrate hunt in our local habitat to see if we could spot some of them! We safely collected them and brought them back to class. We then used our classification key to identify them before we safely returned them to their natural habitat.

Year 1 had a fantastic 'World Book Day' last week!
We enjoyed lots of 'Reading for Pleasure' time and had an amazing time with Year 6 when they came to the classroom! They made us quizzes based on one of our favourite stories - 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.
We also completed lots of learning on our favourite characters.

World Book Day 2024
What a fantastic day we had at St John’s! We kicked off our day – Read Your Way with an assembly led by our wonderful Year 6. They had great advice about reading and books to choose. We enjoyed a brilliant class competition today Design a Door – themed around the idea of Reading for Pleasure. Classes also enjoyed reading, reading and listening to stories being read. Well done everyone.

It's been a busy week for children who have taken part in ATSA events.
First of all, on Tuesday, 4 Year 6 children learned about First Aid at Garrett Hall Primary School. They enjoyed learning about injuries, bleeding, CPR and calling 999.
On Wednesday, 8 children then represented St. John's at the Swimming Gala.
Two of our children even finished in 1st place in their heats!
Well done to all involved!
