CAN YOU TAKE STEPS TO RECESSION PROOF YOUR BUSINESS?

It is vital that you recession proof your business as much as possible.

There are several steps you can take to help ensure your business stays afloat in these turbulent times.

Some of these steps are:

⭐️ Have a clear understanding of your finances. You must know your monthly income, expenses, and profit.
⭐️ Look at how you can diversify your income streams. This could be adding new products or services, or finding new markets to sell to.
⭐️ Increase your customer base. Do not rely on a few big clients for the majority of your business. This often ends in disaster!
⭐️ Carry on marketing! If you can continue to market in these times, you will outperform most of your competition.
⭐️ Review your costs and stay within budget. Do your research and make sure your costs are as low as possible.
⭐️ Build up cash reserves. If possible, have some money put aside for unexpected costs. Do not spend unnecessarily.
⭐️ Be mindful of your outgoings. Businesses often have to tighten their budgets and cut costs where they can (but only where you can – do not force cuts that aren’t needed).

If you can follow as many of these tips as possible, you will begin safeguarding yourself against the economic downturn.

If you work on a self-employed basis, then you will be permitted to add allowable expenses on to your Self Assessment Tax Return.

Allowable expenses are the costs you incur on behalf of running your business (they are your business running costs). Provided your costs are purely for business purposes, then they are classed as allowable expenses.

You will need to have the invoices/receipts for your expenses, so they can be offset against your profit and allow for less tax to be owed.
