There’s research that shows children learn four times faster when they’re genuinely interested in the content compared to when they’re not... Four times faster!

I’ve always known engagement matters but seeing this research really reinforced why we spend time creating personalised content for our children rather than just using generic worksheets or textbooks.

Lovely Lottie is currently obsessed with P.Louise. So we created a comprehension specifically about P. Louise. More work for me? Yes, definitely. Could I have just used something off the shelf and saved myself time? Of course... but that’s not what we’re about... and the difference it made was huge.

Lottie flew through that comprehension. She was fully engaged, reading carefully, thinking deeply about the questions, discussing the content with genuine enthusiasm. We covered all the same skills - inference, retrieval, vocabulary work, explaining her answers - but she barely noticed she was doing “work” because she was so interested in what she was reading.

This is something we do constantly. We write word problems about children’s favourite football teams. Create comprehensions about hobbies or interests. Use names of pets or friends in maths questions. Build spelling lists around words children actually want to learn because they’re relevant to their lives right now.

When I was teaching in school, I simply didn’t have time to do this for every child in a class of 30 but in our small groups we absolutely can tailor everything to what makes each individual child tick.

The impact on engagement and progress is honestly incredible. Children learn so much faster when they care about what we’re working on.

Is writing a comprehension about a makeup YouTuber slightly mad? Probably... but it worked and Lottie absolutely nailed it. That’s four times faster learning right there.💙

These engaging sessions are designed to prepare children for their next steps and keep their brains stimulated throughout the 6-week holiday. Whether it be the leap from reception into year 1, the jump from year 1 to year 2 or year 6 SAT and 11 Plus preparation, we have the perfect session for you.

We have designed our summer school sessions to target specific needs ensuring that children thrive and do not become a victim of the ‘Summer slide.’

All groups are limited to 4 children to ensure quality teaching and leaning. Equally, this encourages independent learning whilst also providing children with social opportunities.

Hello future 11 Plus’ers! We are big believers in the phrase ‘Fail to prepare, prepare to fail!’ For this reason we are making sure you are well prepared for the upcoming 11 Plus exams on Monday 16th September 2024.

Mocks are excellent for
* Overcoming nerves and a sense of the ‘unknown’.
* Allowing your child to feel more comfortable in the exam process
* Building confidence
* Highlighting those weaker areas so you can practise and fine tune them before the real exam

🔔 We are hosting 4 mock exams between now and September. They will include, verbal reasoning, non verbal reasoning, maths and a comprehension. All of which will feature of the upcoming exam. The sessions will mimic the exam, with 2 separate 1 hour exams with a 15 minute break in between. The exams will then be marked and you will receive detailed feedback based on your child’s results. The feedback will include areas of improvement and give you information on how your child can make further progress.

🗺️ The mock exams will be held at St Charles Primary school, Swinton. Hosted by Harriet (Bold Beginnings Tutoring) and Tracey (Education Matters). The sessions will start at 9am and finish around 12pm. Further details will be sent out with your booking confirmation.

💰 The cost is £60 per person. However ‼️ if you are a current student of either Harriet’s or Tracey’s you will receive a 10% discount. Payment must be made in full in order to secure your child’s space. We anticipate this to be a very busy event so unfortunately we cannot risk having no shows.

‼️ Parents’ evening ‼️

Parents’ evening should not bring any surprises. It’s a short period of time for your child’s teacher to give brief feedback on their progress so far. If a teacher has any concerns, they should really have approached you

Go prepared! If you need to write down a list of questions and take it with you, do so! As a teacher, I much prefer to have open and honest communication with my parents. We are a TEAM working TOGETHER for your child. Ask away and do not be afraid!

The Summer Slide or Summer Slump is the name given to the loss of learning over the summer holidays. The 6 week break has a huge inspect of children’s learning and confidence and can put them on the back foot when retuning to school in September.
