Science is humanity's most powerful tool β a force that should be used to heal, innovate, and elevate the world, never to destroy it.
Today, as we observe Hiroshima Day, we are reminded of the devastating consequences when brilliant minds and scientific breakthroughs are directed toward war. While it is a common misconception that the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was a megaton-class weapon, "Little Boy" was actually much smaller β a 15 to 16-kiloton bomb. Yet, the sheer physics of this single detonation are horrifying to comprehend. It released an estimated 63 terajoules of energy in a fraction of a second. At ground zero, the surface temperatures instantly spiked between 3,000Β°C and 4,000Β°C, while the edge of the fireball reached roughly 7,000Β°C β hotter than the surface of the sun.
The catastrophic loss of life and enduring devastation from that single release of energy serves as a permanent warning. We have the intellect to split the atom; we must have the wisdom and humanity to unite the world.
Let us choose to invest our knowledge into building a future of progress and compassion. Let us lay down our weapons, end destructive conflicts, and work together for a world where lasting peace replaces endless war. ποΈπΏ
