Year 10 science - heart dissection πŸ«€

Miss Walker's year 10 students have been exploring the structure of the heart, linking their knowledge of its structure to its function. 🩸

Whilst a little gory, this experience affords a real insight into the structural anatomy of the heart, and working on real organs reveals a little more than diagrams and photos ever can. βœ‚οΈ

Students identified structures such as ventricles, valves and arteries and crucially how tissue thickness supports its function. πŸ₯Ό

After-school darts club 🎯

We've got a huge range of extra-curricular clubs that students can join. Every Monday night, it's Miss Ellaby's darts club. 🏫

Students get a chance to hone their throwing skills, as well as practise those all important mental maths calculations needed to be a darts-pro! πŸ”’

Here's a few photos from last night's session.

We're super proud of our former student, Gracie Prior, making a starting appearance for England's U23 team in their 1-0 victory over France last night! πŸ…πŸ‘

The team headed out to INF Clairefontaine, just outside Paris, for their closely-matched encounter. ⚽

Their victory sees them in the semi-finals of the WU23 European Competition with details of opposition to be confirmed in due course. πŸ†

We wish the young Lionesses the best of luck! 🦁

Culinary Competition πŸ”ͺπŸ”₯

Friday saw our students take part in the Manchester heats of the Trust's annual culinary competition. πŸ†

Students were given a surprise set of ingredients and given one hour to wow us with their culinary skills and teamwork abilities. πŸ•

Our future star chefs this year were from year 9, and they'll go on to compete against all the other Co-op schools in July. We wish them the best of luck! πŸ‘©β€πŸ³πŸ‘¨β€πŸ³πŸ‘

We'd like to say a huge thank you to the very generous people of Failsworth for their donations when our choir visited Tesco to sing some Christmas tunes last month! πŸ™

We've totted up the cash and in only an hour of caroling, a whopping Β£248.93 was raised. πŸ’·

This money goes straight back into the community, as it funds essential supplies for our Community Fridge. Anyone can come and get free food or hygiene products if they are struggling to afford the basics.

πŸ•‘ It's open Monday to Friday, 2pm - 5pm.

This week in geography, year 10 are learning about how low and high-income countries manage hazards. Today, it's all about earthquake resistant engineering! 🫨

As part of their GCSEs, students will need to know how buildings use shock absorbers, base isolation and cross-bracing help to absorb tremors. 🌎

Students then put these methods to the test using the next best thing to concrete and steel - spaghetti and marshmallows! 🍝 Student constructions are rated for their resistance to an earthquake, or in our case, a shaken desk!

This, along with knowing some specific case studies, will help students with paper 1 of their geography GCSE.

Welcome back! πŸ‘‹

We hope everyone had a great Christmas holiday. πŸŽ„

Here are a few photos from our end of term celebrations. Our students were treated to a performance from our rock band, and our choir joined the staff briefing for a rendition of Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody! 🎸

Tons of rewards given out for students with exemplary behaviour, attendance and homework. Some top-drawer festive hats, too!πŸ’―

We'll be doing the same at Easter, so as always we'd really appreciate your support in making sure your child is in every day, ready to learn, and homework is complete and on-time.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Christmas show last week πŸŽ„

Thank you very much to our raffle prize donors: Morrisons, Tesco, Foz's Fish Bar, MCFC, Russell Hobbs and Co-op! πŸ™
