Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (or TCI) training is one of the most essential parts of our employees progression at Social Care Services Group.
It empowers our staff to feel confident when responding to young people in crisis in a therapeutic and nurturing manner. Through positive behaviour management and crisis communication the staff are better able to work with the children to achieve positive outcomes.
Our accredited trainers recently delivered 6 days of training and received positive feedback from our team members.

We caught up with Bella, our Quality Assurance Manager and Responsible Individual for 5 of our children’s homes across the North West.
Bella has worked for Social Care Services Group for over 21 years, starting with the company in 2003 as a residential care worker, progressing up to her current role over the years.
She ran us through what a typical day can look like for her:
“Day to day, I can be doing a number of different things; visiting the homes, spending time with the staff and kids, providing training, doing manager supervisions and supporting with recruitment.
The most important part of my role is how closely I work with the homes to ensure they are ran safely so that the young people in our care feel happy and secure where they are living.
I love to see the growth in the children and watching them take on important milestones such as their GCSEs and proms is such a privilege. I think it’s so important to celebrate their successes, no matter how big or small.
But as well as the kids, it’s important to see our staff flourish too. I love to see our employees stepping out of their comfort zones and developing themselves within their roles.”
Additionally, we asked Bella what she was most excited for at SCS in the coming months:
“We’ve got a new learning disability home opening later in the year. It’s really exciting as it’s our second specialist home and something we’ve been wanting to do for a really long time. It’s thanks to having the right staff in place that we’re finally able to achieve it.”

Introducing Jim, our Recruitment and Training Manager.
He’s been with Social Care Services Group for over 20 years, overseeing the progression and development of some of our longest serving employees alongside our newest recruits.
With another run of training coming up, Jim has shared some insights into the course:
“In June I’ll be training our newest employees under the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention system (or TCI for short) which is essential for the wellbeing of both our staff and young people in care.
Over 3 weeks, the training gives our employees the tools they need to support young people with emotional competence, recognising triggers and early interventions for dealing with vulnerable children.
Using innovative role plays, we run through a number of scenarios that our employees may come across within their roles and ensure they’re confidently able to support children and help them to learn new coping strategies.”
That’s the training aspect of his role covered, we also asked Jim about recruitment, and what it is he looks for in a prospective candidate:
“Half of my job as recruiter is recognising potential in applicants.
We’re looking for enthusiasm, a sense of humour and someone who is prepared for the amazing and often difficult challenge of working with children in care”
Think you could be a good fit?

Last month our leaving care residential care worker, Debbie completed her 31 miles in 31 days walk challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Not only did she complete it, she smashed it, doing a total of 93 miles.
But she wasn’t alone; one of our young people from our Leaving Care home in Clayton went even further, doing 114 miles to raise money for life saving research into the prevention and cure of breast cancer.
An amazing achievement for both of them, well done 🏆
