Wow 🀩 Busy week for us. We welcomed Katy back into the woods for the grand film screening.
The children made Elderflower cordial and popcorn and invited their adults to join us. The children worked on their films over a number of weeks. They planned, worked on character and plot development, acted and filmed everything before Katy carefully edited it all together. Thank you so much Katy we have really loved this process. We are so grateful to have such talented adults coming into work with us. We love the variety we are able to offer the children and to be able to follow their interests. πŸ₯° We also continued with our investigations into natural dyeing. Total wow moments as we brought in some science and found out how to change the colours of a red cabbage dye. All this alongside whittling, fire lighting, painting, nordic braiding, shelter building and a new game involving taking fish from an otter. Cannot wait to see what this week brings πŸ™‚πŸ¦ŠπŸŒΏπŸ”₯🌀

This summer term, we are looking at natural dyes. We experimented with how we can change the original purple colour of red cabbage to beautiful shades of red and green. Lots of fun and moments of wonder.

Nordic braiding encouraged us to work together, using rhythm and connection. A fun and creative way to support us in building community within our woodland setting. πŸ™‚πŸ¦ŠπŸͺΊπŸŒπŸŒ€

Fantastic return to Our School in the Woods this week. The woods are in full bloom and we enjoyed settling in with each other through games and crafts. We also gave a warm welcome to Helen Stewart a local storyteller. Helen once again entranced us with a variety of stories. We loved hearing more tales of Anansi the spider. She also entertained us with some really silly stories. We are grateful to have such talented artists to invite into our setting. πŸ™‚

🌿This week saw the arrival of the beautiful and fragrant Elderflower. We’ve made delicious sweet tea, used the wood for mini hand drums, shared stories and of course visited and thanked the Elder Tree Mother β˜€οΈ

This week we incorporated our nature connection practice into our group game. The children focused on the shapes, structure and colour of the leaves and seed before excitedly working together to find their own examples. We were able to notice the distinguishing features of each individual leaf and subtle differences between a Hazel and Lime leaf. πŸƒ
