The Department for Education has published a new version of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework which will come into effect from 4 September 2023.

This includes the new ratios limits for two-year-olds in nurseries and pre-schools, the clarification on flexibilities around childminder ratio rules when caring for and educating siblings or their own child/children, and the rules around safe eating practices.

We would not accept the state providing longer school hours for wealthier families, and nor should we accept it in the early years. If we want to transform our school system to make it fairer, it needs to begin with giving every child the foundation to succeed at school in the first place.
