Embracing divergent pathways of development - Centre for Early Childhood 17/11/2023

I love this;

‘As we look ahead to our changing landscapes in early childhood, we can now choose to change direction. It is time to move on from the idea that every child is travelling down the same developmental pathway and, instead, embrace that there are off-beaten tracks to be discovered. We can reject the idea that there is a universal “right” childhood and instead recognise the vast and beautiful assortment of childhood(s) that exist within our early years. It is time.’

Embracing divergent pathways of development - Centre for Early Childhood It is an undeniable fact that the landscape of early childhood has changed dramatically since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Just landed through my door! Hot off the press.

Thank you My First Five Yearsfor the opportunity to be part of the creation of this beauty, full of beautiful classy illustrations and top tips to show parents how the everyday moments matter.

I would have loved this when my son was little. I hope it reassures parents that you don’t need loads of fancy ‘stuff’ to help your baby to learn, just everyday items and situations, a close loving relationship and a spirit of playfulness!

The Department for Education has published a new version of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework which will come into effect from 4 September 2023.

This includes the new ratios limits for two-year-olds in nurseries and pre-schools, the clarification on flexibilities around childminder ratio rules when caring for and educating siblings or their own child/children, and the rules around safe eating practices.

A fair start? Equity in access to early years education - Sutton Trust 15/07/2023

We would not accept the state providing longer school hours for wealthier families, and nor should we accept it in the early years. If we want to transform our school system to make it fairer, it needs to begin with giving every child the foundation to succeed at school in the first place.

An abundance of possibilities explored today at the brilliant . Loose parts galore! The beautiful mill shop is open to everyone and full to the rafters with discarded materials, originally destined for landfill. These materials are sold at very low prices and reused for art and play and education! Thank you as always for inviting me and inspiring me! My car is full and can’t wait to see what the children do with them!
