Last week, we had the pleasure to work with UCEN Manchester's new students for Freshers Week. Naturally, starting a brand new course with people you have never met, perhaps moving to a new city far from home, can be quite intimidating no matter how excited you are for it.

Our senior facilitator Ed created two bespoke workshops about Self-Esteem, one for drama students at Arden School of Theatre, and one for mature students at UCEN.

The workshops focused on overcoming Imposter Syndrome, negative comparison, and practical ways to raise your self-esteem. As always, we get our students and teachers up on their feet and speaking in front of the rest of the group!

The engagement we get from students attending these sessions is always fantastic and it's amazing to see their self-esteem increase right in front of our eyes. Well done everyone!

Here's what one of our attendees thought after the session:

"It was really informative and useful, the activities made me think a lot about how to improve my general wellbeing as well as specifically my confidence and self-esteem. I learned a lot about myself! And had good time too.

Eds’ professionalism and kindness was outstanding and made me feel comfortable enough to not only take part but enjoy."

Thanks for having us, UCEN, and we look forward to working with you again soon!

It's easy to compare ourselves to others and come up short.

But how can we stop judging ourselves so negatively and avoid the 'comparison trap'?

In this clip from a recent virtual session, Ed shares key insights to help you gain awareness of this mental habit and stop comparing yourself negatively!

This past 6 months has been a wonderful return to the classroom.

We've had the pleasure of visiting many schools in the North West, delivering our action-packed workshops to 339 students across Merseyside and Greater Manchester.

Big thanks to Shaping Futures (Uni Connect Programme) and Greater Manchester Higher for helping us to bring , and to so many classrooms, especially after such a difficult year.

We're already excited for the next academic year and have fantastic training lined up for students covering everything from , , , , , , , , & more!

Here's to bringing confidence to the classroom in 2021/2022!

It was a pleasure to be at The Oldershaw Academy yesterday delivering our Confident Communication Workshop as part of their 'Skills Employment Information Day'.

Sending another HUGE well done to every student who attended, you pushed your comfort zone and all spoke with passion and enthusiasm! That is the key to securing your places in HE, careers, & much more in life!

It always makes our day when we see students, who were afraid to even say hello to us in the beginning, gain the confidence to speak for an entire minute at the front of the class by the end of the workshop.

We manage this by gradually de-mystifying the concept of "confidence", and allowing students to prove to themselves that they already had inner confidence all along.

This has got to be one of our favourite workshops to do. Thanks for having us Oldershaw Academy, and have a great summer holiday Year 12's!

We had two groups of impassioned and inspiring students, each exploring their reason for being and motivations. We're certain you're all going to go onto great things and make a huge difference to your communities.

For , the team at Well Said are sharing their experiences with mental health. In this video we have Jasmine, our Education Liaison Director, talking about her struggles with self-harm and eating disorders.

Jasmine talks about how understanding her self worth was very difficult due to being bullied and experiencing other traumas in her childhood. She suffered from severe self-harm and eating disorders due to having a negative self-image.

Jasmine also gives her best tip in overcoming these issues. Becoming her own best friend has been fundamental in changing her perception of herself and how she treats herself. She understands now that being her own bully was never the answer.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with self-harm or eating disorders, please speak to someone and seek help. These are serious and dangerous issues and you never have to face them alone. Please text the Young Minds Helpline. Text: YM to 85258 where a trained volunteer will text you back.

If you are in immediate danger with either of these issues, please call 999.

Hi everyone, it's Jasmine here. Tomorrow we're releasing my video for and I'm excited to share part of my mental health journey with you all. I wanted to pop by before then and give you a bit of a midweek boost!

Firstly, I wanted to tell you that whatever you're going through right now - it's eventually going to be okay. It might not be tomorrow or the next day, or the next, but at some point you'll look back and see just how much further you are, how much stronger you've become, and how much you've grown. It's important to remember that recovery from mental illness is not linear. You will have good days and bad days, weeks even, but trust that the bad times will not last.
Even when the weather is turbulent and stormy, the sun is always shining above the clouds. (FACT!)

You have to be proactive in protecting yourself from negative thoughts and behaviours. The hardest thing I had to learn was that no-one could do it for me! As much as they want to, no-one can stop you from negative thinking. It has to come from within yourself, and that power is in you.

So no matter how the week has started off for you, you have the power to change it all around. Watch a motivational video, do something you LOVE, and celebrate Who You Are.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with self-esteem and mental health and would like confidential support but don't feel comfortable talking out loud - you can text 'SHOUT' to 85258 to speak with a trained volunteer who will text you. More information can be found here at https://giveusashout.org/get-help/ .

If you feel in immediate danger please call 999.

You are worthy, you are loved, and you are never alone.

~ Jasmine :)
