๐Ÿ’šA huge thank you to everyone who got involved in yesterday's fundraiser! ๐Ÿ’š

We are delighted to say that we raised approximately ยฃ330. A special thank you goes to our wonderful staff who baked the most delicious cakes and created a fantastic nature shop, helping to raise funds for Tots Plot in Astley.

The work that Tots Plot does is truly incredible. The children absolutely love visiting and learn so much through their experiences there. It is such a valuable resource for our community.
A very special thank you to Kath and Phil, who run Tots Plot with such passion and dedication. Your hard work makes a real difference to so many children. ๐Ÿ’š

Thank you again to everyone who supported, donated, baked, bought, and helped make the day such a success ๐Ÿ˜

๐Ÿšฆ๐ŸšธThis week, we have been learning about child safety.

Through a range of fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities, the children have explored several important safety topics, including:

* Road safety
* Plant safety
* Water safety
* Fire safety
* Online safety
* People who help us in our community

The children have enjoyed taking part in discussions, games, and practical activities that have helped them develop their understanding of how to stay safe in different situations. We are very proud of their enthusiasm and participation throughout the week.

๐ŸŒž Fun in the sun and sun safety ๐ŸŒž

1. Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sun
* Babies have very delicate skin and limited natural protection.
* Use:
* Shade
* Lightweight long clothing
* Wide-brim hats
* Pram covers with airflow
* Avoid relying mainly on sunscreen for very young babies.

2. Avoid the strongest sun
UV rays are strongest:
* Between 11am and 3pm in the UK (often longer in summer or abroad)
* Near water, sand, and reflective surfaces
Plan:
* Outdoor play earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon
* Regular shaded breaks

3. Use protective clothing
Choose:
* Long-sleeved lightweight tops
* Loose trousers or longer shorts
* Wide-brim or legionnaire-style hats
* UV-protective sunglasses
Tightly woven fabrics protect better than thin materials.

4. Apply sunscreen correctly
Use a:
* Broad-spectrum sunscreen
* SPF 50+
* Water-resistant product
Apply:
* 15โ€“30 minutes before going outside
* To all exposed skin, including ears, neck, tops of feet, and backs of hands
* Again every 2 hours, and after swimming or sweating
Do not forget:
* Lips (use SPF lip balm if appropriate)

5. Encourage hydration
Young children can become dehydrated quickly in warm weather.
Offer:
* Water regularly
* Extra feeds for babies
* Shade and cool rest breaks

6. Watch for signs of overheating or sunburn
Signs include:
* Red or hot skin
* Irritability
* Excessive sleepiness
* Headache
* Dizziness
* Reduced wet nappies
Seek medical advice if:
* A baby under 1 year gets sunburned
* Blistering develops
* Your child becomes unwell

Sun Safety in Pushchairs and Cars
* Never cover a pram completely with blankets or thick covers because heat can build up quickly.
* Use breathable mesh shades instead.
* Cars can become dangerously hot very fast โ€” never leave a child alone in a vehicle.

Cloudy Days Still Matter
UV rays can pass through clouds, so sun protection is important even when it does not feel very hot. ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒž

On Friday, we celebrated the birthday of the wonderful Sir David Attenborough โ€“ a true British icon who has inspired generations to love and protect the natural world ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ‹

Here at our nursery, we truly embrace the beauty of nature through our Forest School sessions, where children are encouraged to explore, discover, and connect with the outdoors every day. ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ‚

We take Sir David Attenboroughโ€™s words to heart, nurturing curiosity, respect for wildlife, and a love for our planet in all of our little learners. ๐Ÿ’š

โ€œThe natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest.โ€ โ€“ David Attenborough
