A summer break means our staff haven’t been in their usual classrooms, studios or pitches, but that hasn’t stopped them being busy. From inspiring pupils at Summer School to coaching on the international stage and leading overseas adventures, it’s been a busy summer across Malvern College and The Downs Malvern.

At Summer School, staff from both schools helped just under 200 pupils discover new interests and develop their skills.

Director of Hockey, Elliot Foweraker took his coaching skills to Poland, coaching the Swedish Men’s and Women’s National teams at the EuroHockey 5s Championships in Wałcz, achieving a Silver and Bronze medal and World Cup qualification.

Jay Watts (Director of Outdoor Education) led a Nordic adventure through Denmark, Finland and Sweden. There may have momentarily been a geographical error, with the group entering the wrong country, but they quickly found their bearings and embraced the adventure!

Meanwhile, Director of Rugby, Nick Tisdale, rugby staff, and Director of Sport, Mark Hardinges headed to South Africa, bringing four year groups together for a hugely rewarding tour. 8/11 matches won, an amazing turnout and wonderful feedback from the local community about our pupils.

And that’s just a snapshot, with DofE expeditions, CCF training exercises, pre-season camps and much more keeping our staff busy this summer!

It’s been a busy summer for our equestrian riders, with plenty of training and competition along the way.

Fleur D-D, Poppy G and Emilia E have been working hard with dressage coach Maddy Frewin at King’s Equestrian Centre, making great progress with their horses ahead of the new school year. With NSEA dressage coming up next term and the Championships at Addington Manor in October, there’s plenty to look forward to.

It’s also been a fantastic summer for Charlotte G. Competing nationally and internationally, Charlotte G has been busy in the showjumping ring, competing up to 1.30m and picking up a number of wins at events including Bicton, David Broome Event Centre and Onley Grounds.

A great summer of riding, with plenty more to come!

With the new term fast approaching, we've been reminiscing about some of the speeches given at the end of last academic year.

Here are just some of the powerful words on House spirit that Livia shared from her experience at Malvern College, before heading off to Edinburgh to study Medicine.

Match Day on Tour 🏉🇿🇦

For many of our pupils, the South Africa tour became far more than rugby. It was about new experiences, time with friends and memories that will stay with them long after leaving Malvern.

Reflecting on the experience, the boys described it as, “the best opportunity I have ever experienced” and “a life-changing experience”, while one pupil shared that it was “a great way of finishing off my time at Malvern College.”

A huge thank you to the staff who give so much to make experiences like this possible.
