British Dowsers

British Dowsers Dowsing is a journey of exploration; discover deeper aspects about yourself and Nature. It is so much more than searching for water.

The British Society of Dowsers is a UK charity that aims to support the practice of dowsing through educational courses, talks and meetings and the promotion of the activities of the lively dowsing groups throughout the UK. The society has been in existence since 1933, when it focussed much on water divining and searching for oil, minerals, or even lost people. But over time dowsing interests have

extended to more diverse matters such as health and well-being, archaeology and more spiritual interests. This has reflected the increasingly diverse backgrounds of its membership. The society publishes a regular magazine journal, "Dowsing Today" that contains fascinating articles from members. There is an annual conference in the autumn and a Symposium in the Spring, to encourage the meeting of like-minded individuals. Training courses are offered to encourage more people to take up the practice and then to develop their skills further. A register of professional dowsers is also available, who will offer their dowsing services to the public. Although we are a UK based, we have always had members from all over the World, who have added to our diverse mix of members. We hope you will join us to develop your own intuitive abilities in a friendly and supportive way. To find out more, visit our website at:

Saturday – Kate Smart: Batsford Arboretum
This workshop is a full afternoon trip to Batsford Arboretum, so you won't be able to attend any other workshops that afternoon.
We'll do our best to arrange lift shares for everyone and would ask everyone to offer to drive, where possible to facilitate this. As the visit involves walking around the arboretum, a good level of stamina is required, there will not be an opportunity to rest. Please also come prepared for the weather by bringing suitable outdoor clothing, as conditions may be wet or changeable.

Shaun Holbrow: The Rollrights
This is also a full afternoon workshop, so it isn't possible to book another workshop that afternoon.
Transport will be provided by coach, which will drop the group off and return later to collect everyone. Please note that there is no parking available at the site, so travelling by coach is essential, but it will not be staying at the site.
This workshop requires a good level of stamina, in uneven terrain and we recommend bringing appropriate outdoor clothing in case of inclement weather.
Please note that Shaun has asked for this workshop to be limited to experienced dowsers, as there won't be enough time during the session to teach the basics of dowsing.

To purchase tickets: https://britishdowsers.org/product-category/conference/ or call the BSD office on 01684 576969 Tues-Fri 10:00-2:30 or email [email protected]

Our conference is a welcoming and open space to all, experienced dowsers, novices and those just curious!

Zoom Talk with Fay Semple

Thursday 20th August 2026

7.30pm (London, UK/BST)

Fay Semple is a seer, healer, and geomancer who has worked with the living energies of the Earth for most of her life. Born in England and raised in Ireland, she has been able to see conscious energy in trees, stones, and landscapes since childhood. After returning to England she trained and worked as a full-time geomancer and dowser. She is a former tutor for the British Society of Dowsers and received the BSD Award for Services to Dowsing in recognition of her research and teaching.

Fay founded an online platform offering courses that help people restore harmony in their homes and deepen their relationship with the land. Her forthcoming Hay House book, The Living Language of the Land, shares the practical system she has developed over many years, combining ancient geomantic wisdom with modern scientific insights.

She lives in the English countryside, where she continues to work with clients and explore the Earth’s wisdom.

Details of Fay’s talk:

The Coherent Model: How Sacred-Site Fields Form – A Science-First Exploration
In this science-first presentation, Fay Semple shares a coherent working model of how sacred-site energy fields form. Drawing on geophysics, geometry, and decades of direct observation, she explores the interplay of underground water, piezoelectric and paramagnetic geology, telluric currents, sacred structure boundary conditions, standing waves, and organised sound.
The model remains a working hypothesis, grounded in established physics yet open to verification, and offers a clear framework for understanding why certain places feel so powerful and how they may have supported human wellbeing, ecological vitality, and expanded awareness.

Fay's talk is free for Members of the BSD but Non-Members will be charged ÂŁ5.00.

BSD Annual Conference announce our Sunday workshop host: Amy Murphy Watts

Workshop: Listening to the Body Through Essences and Dowsing Exploring subtle energy, trapped emotions and energetic balance.

Sunday 20th September, p.m.

This workshop explores how dowsing can be used alongside flower essences and energy awareness to listen more deeply to the body and its subtle responses. We will look at how emotional patterns, stress and energetic imbalances may become held within the body, and ways dowsing can help identify and support release and rebalancing. The workshop will also include working intuitively with flower essences, energy techniques and the body’s own wisdom.

Biography: Amy Murphy-Watts Dowsing Practitioner, Energy & Wellbeing Specialist, Founder of Nature’s Wish and Dowsing for Vitality For over 20 years, Amy Murphy-Watts has worked in the field of dowsing, energetic wellbeing, and holistic support. Her practice combines energy dowsing, health dowsing, house and workplace clearing, flower essences, and intuitive wellbeing work to help clients better understand the deeper influences affecting emotional, physical, and energetic health. Amy supports clients experiencing stress, burnout, emotional overwhelm, low vitality, recurring patterns, and environmental influences within homes or workplaces. Her approach is gentle, investigative, and holistic — exploring how beliefs, emotions, stress patterns, environment, and energetic imbalances may be affecting overall wellbeing. BSD Annual Conference announce our Sunday workshop host: Melanie Lorien

Workshop: Practical House Healing Techniques.

Sunday 20th September p.m.

A basic introduction to the main areas that we focus on as house healers – such as: Geopathic Stress, Geopsychic Stress and Technopathic Stress.

I will participants, by asking to dowse with pendulums, rods or work device-less as preferred.

Biography:

I have worked closely with the Earth most of my life, as a horticulturist, and as a Woodland Conservation Ranger in Kent. I also follow a Pagan Druid Path that is animist based. In 1992 we found a new home in Co. Clare, Ireland where we still live today.

I have always been a very keen Earth Energy dowser; working with trees, plants, dryads, nature and human spirits. I also volunteered with the ‘EE Zoom Group’ for several years, as both a host and as admin. http://www.earth-energy.group/

In 2014, I attended “TENDING THE HEARTH: Traditional Celtic House Clearing” with Caitlín Matthews & Cait Branigan, both fellow Druids, and I realise that this was a subject I really wanted to explore further. So in 2019 I attended two ‘Heal Your Home’ courses with Adrian Incledon-Webber. https://www.dowsingspirits.co.uk/

I then went on to study remotely for a year with his colleague, Tim Walter as ‘Professional House Healer’. https://knightsrose.com/

After this I trained with Dawn Kirkham on her excellent ‘Professional House Healing Programme’. https://dawnkirkham.com/

Dawn Kirkham and myself had met before this, and decided to create ‘The International House Healers Network; which we have co-run together ever since. With Dawn working from Victoria in Canada, and myself in Co. Clare, Eíre.

https://internationalhousehealersnetwork.com/

As well as co-running a very active house healing network, I work with clients remotely around the world. I also have a very deep love of folklore, customs and traditions, which I combine with my house healing whenever possible, as I am also a Heritage Straw Worker, and the Irish representative to the Straw Craftsmen.

https://www.strawcraftsmen.co.uk

I will often incorporate traditional corn dollies for house blessing and protection; as well as other traditional apotropaic protection charms, believed to protect the home, and bring good luck or prosperity.

BSD Annual Conference announce our Saturday Speaker: Kate Smart and afternoon workshop Workshop to dowse at Batsford Arboretum

Saturday 19th September

The Healing Power of Trees. Location: Batsford Arboretum Workshop description: Walking into a wood is like entering a quiet library. Each tree has a life story to tell and wisdom to share with us when we attune to their natural vibration. Through dowsing we can explore the healing qualities different trees possess and find a tree that may help us on our own healing path. We will be dowsing the subtle energies of trees and recognising some familiar features as well as exploring some new gifts trees have to offer us. We conclude by participating in a reciprocal, group healing around the oldest tree in the Arboretum, a magnificent Beech tree.

Biography:

One of Kate’s earliest memories is playing in the family garden where she spent many hours. She delighted in stroking bees, picking flowers and trying to eat little light beings attached to plants. Her connectedness to the natural world has never left her and this has taken her on a voyage of enquiry and discovery; every day something new and fascinating is there to be revealed. Born on the vernal equinox and dowsing from childhood using all kinds of methods, Kate is now Chair of Malvern Dowsers, designs gardens in a holistic and biodynamic way having studied to be a landscape architect, keeps bees (but not for the honey) and runs the Spirituality Special Interest Group for dowsers to explore and deepen our understanding of the connection to the cosmic consciousness. She’s the Chair of the New Essenes (a group supported by Sir George Trevelyan who was instrumental in the Findhorn Project and the inception of the Soil Association), contributes to the Alister Hardy Trust that investigates spiritual experiences and has an insatiably curious mind.Website: www.divinegardens.org

BSD Annual Conference announce guest speaker Shaun Holbrow

Talk: Origins of a Dowser.

Sunday 20th September a.m.

Visit: Dowsing the Rollrights

Sunday 20th September p.m.

A detailed talk on my lifestyle and experiences as a dowser, how I use the craft as a tool to aid people in their homes, assist in projects and deliver comprehensive workshops.

Biography:

Shaun Holbrow is a self-taught dowser with a deep fascination for earth energies and ancient sites. His journey into the craft of dowsing began on a quarry in 2022, while searching for a waterpipe. After successfully locating the pipe, Shaun’s interest piqued, which soon evolved into a quest where he embraced the craft as a tool, unlocking an interest into the more mysterious aspects of life. Since establishing himself as a dowser, he has engaged in countless hours of research, investigations, projects and more recently house healing. As a result, Shaun has developed a workshop where delegates are taught the fundamentals of the craft in a way that will encapsulate minds to embark on their own journey into the wonderful world of dowsing.

Shaun has some fantastic posts on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_ley_wrangler/
