Class 2 and 3 enjoyed their first Forest School session of the year this week, which linked
with their learning about the Anglo-Saxons. The children were challenged to build shelters,
make tools and prepare a campfire. By the end of the session, the Forest School site was
beginning to look like a proper Anglo-Saxon village! It was fantastic to see the children
working together, putting their skills to the test and bringing their learning to life. Well done,
Classes 2 and 3!

There was a real buzz of excitement in school!

Miss Holmes arrived to teach Classes 2 and 3 their very first keyboard lesson. The children were so excited to get started, exploring the keyboards and beginning their musical journey together.
What a fantastic opportunity for our young musicians – we can’t wait to hear how they progress over the coming weeks!

Mrs Myers and I have had an amazing couple of days with Trauma Informed Schools. Incredible start to the diploma and made us realise, yet again, what a privilege it is to work with such amazing children.

I can’t wait to see you in the morning

It’s been so lovely welcoming C2 back today! After spending some time chatting and catching up, we got creative in maths by making Base 10 monsters and putting our place value skills to good use.

Later, we headed outside to investigate some mysterious muddy footprints! We searched carefully for clues and put our detective skills to the test as we tried to work out who our mystery visitor might have been. What a lovely first day back at school being Empowered Explorers! 👣

Taking the Curriculum Outdoors!

The staff at St James’ were back to school today for an inspiring day of learning entitled Taking the Curriculum Outdoors.

We were delighted to welcome Debbie Lambert, who brought with her a wealth of knowledge, ideas and enthusiasm. As a staff team, we explored just how much of our classroom learning can be taken beyond the classroom walls and into the great outdoors!

Throughout the day, we investigated 2D shapes, developed map skills, position and direction, and explored ways of sorting historical artefacts and creating timelines outdoors. We also got creative with storytelling and writing – we wonder if you can identify any of the stories we explored from the photographs!

Maths took us outside too, with sticks becoming a fantastic resource for exploring fractions. Even computing escaped the classroom as we learned how to code on the playground – without a screen in sight!

We considered how outdoor learning could enrich our RE curriculum, using natural materials to explore the concept of the Trinity, and we got creative with clay, making feelings faces to support conversations around emotions and wellbeing.

It was a fantastic day full of practical ideas, creativity and plenty of fresh air!

We can’t wait to embark on our outdoor learning journey with the children at St James’s over the coming year and see where learning beyond the classroom takes us!
