I often get messages from folks who feel their guitar playing has hit a bit of a rut and they are unsure what to focus on to carry on their progression. Often they are comfortable with a majority of chords and have played some riffs but wish to gain a bit more understanding of music theory on the guitar. Scales are a great way of building up that knowledge while helping to develop techniques and a better understanding of why riffs, licks, chord progressions and solo's work. A great place to start on the guitar or bass is with the Pentatonic Minor scale. A five note scale which is incredibly versatile and by learning the five positions you can really open up the fretboard.

Early arrival in Pickering yesterday for lessons so I visited the castle to enjoy the sun 🌞

Tuesday's Bass lesson was enjoyable teaching a student some sections of 'The Grudge' by Tool. Their songs are quite complex in terms of time signatures. This is a little break down part which has a touch of delay.
