Our Village Montessori

Our Village Montessori Our Village Montessori aims to encourage and nurture children’s innate curiosity for learning.

Our Village Montessori offers carefully prepared environments for children from birth-11+years. Our Village Montessori offers primary opportunities for exploration and discovery; our outdoor environment is a beautiful combination of, gardens and grounds including edible kitchen garden areas, large sand and water play zones and significant space to just be!. Children's learning is facillitated by

trained Montessori guides and is both thorough and fun. Our resident Artist promotes the creative arts both indoors and outside this approach encourages children to be active, curious and inventive . Our facillities allows children to live life adventurously whilst our guides encourage freedom of expression and thought, modelling calm considerate behaviour at all times.

Family Thursday Field trip to site Thornborough Henge!
We dodged the rain this morning to measure the Henges. The sheer size of the archaeological Earth works brought home the skilled endeavours of our amazing ancestors! Hoping to make a scale model during our craft sessions next week… watch this space! . .

Bella Pesto Pasta!
This week we are focussing on food with three practical sessions planned alongside our food timeline that is scheduled for tomorrow's cosmic tale. We aim to use every resource available (even parents!) to extend cultural understanding and refine skills.
This morning's practical demonstration, preparation and of course sampling of our freshly made pasta! . .

This week’s cosmic tale workshop (Tuesday 21st March) is on the history of Food!

Food is part of our daily lives, available, easy to store and convenient to cook, when we are hungry we open the fridge and there it is waiting for us...but have you ever wondered how food was for the Hunter gathers, the Egyptians, Romans and through time to the current day, how has food availability, cooking and preservation changed throughout the ages.

Our study of history and civilisations shines a spotlight on food, we find the answers, experience some of the preparation and preservation techniques, we look at the challenges both historical and present day and give you literally ...food for thought.

Continuing with our work on timelines here is a super simple timeline that connects children with the passage of time.
So often history becomes detached from a child's reality either because it does not include them or it is about a time in history of which they have no experience. So tip out the trunks and unearth family keepsakes.
Need Inspiration, then take a look at ours!

March 8th - International Women's Day
Maria Montessori is known all over the world for her work with children but few are aware of her huge contribution to Womens rights and World Peace, she defied convention by being an unmarried mother and was an outspoken critic in respect of gender and social inequalities, she campaigned vigorously for for equal pay, voting rights and women's education and was the first Woman to graduate from the University of Rome La Sapienza Medical School opening the door for many other women inspired to study medicine, a profession that had up until point, been overwhelmingly male.
Montessori was a self proclaimed pacifist abhorring war and conflict and the destruction, waste and loss of life it stood for, she was not afraid of challenging World leaders, consequently her education method was banned and schools closed by both N**i Germany and Italian Governments when it became clear that she would not support a fascist youth initiatives. Montessori together with her son were interred in India during the second World War and during this time she devised her Peace curriculum, in 1949, 1950 and 1951 she was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize in respect of her humanitarian work. If ever there was a case for awarding the prize posthumously it should surely be for Montessori's legacy.
A true inspiration. . .

This week’s Cosmic Tale was on the History of Clothing and is always a popular workshop with the children!

One of our Parents who is a costume designer kindly brought in her extensive collection of historical clothing books, vintage garments and period costumes which she had made.

We actively encourage parent partnerships in our collective as this widens the scope of available knowledge whilst enriching children’s understanding and experience.
