‼️Arterial Bleeding A Medical Emergency 🩸🩸

Would you recognise it?

🔴 Bright red blood
💥 Blood may spurt or pulse with each heartbeat
⚠️ Can lead to life-threatening blood loss within minutes

What to do:

🚑 Call 999 immediately
🩸 Apply firm, direct pressure to the wound
🩹 Use a haemostatic dressing if available/you know
📦 Continue applying pressure and add further dressings if needed
🛑 Never delay seeking emergency medical help

💡 Remember…

The priority is simple:

🩸 Stop the bleed.
☎️ Call for help.
❤️ Save a life.
‼️ Remember to monitor airway & breathing

🚨 WOULD YOU KNOW WEDNESDAY 🚨

🧠 Would You Know What To Do If Someone Has a Seizure?

A seizure can be frightening to witness, but your actions can help keep someone safe.

✅ DO:

✔️ Stay calm and note the time the seizure starts.
✔️ Move nearby objects away to prevent injury.
✔️ Place something soft under their head if possible.
✔️ Once the seizure has stopped, place them in the recovery position if they are breathing normally.
✔️ Stay with them until they are fully recovered and reassure them.

❌ DON’T:

❌ Don’t hold or restrain them.
❌ Don’t put anything in their mouth.
❌ Don’t try to stop the seizure.

📞 Call 999 if:

🚑 It is their first seizure.
🚑 The seizure lasts more than 5 minutes.
🚑 They have repeated seizures without recovering.
🚑 They are injured or having difficulty breathing afterwards.
🚑 You are concerned at any point.

❌ Myth: “You need formal training to use an AED.”

✅ Fact: Anyone can use an AED!

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are designed for everyone. They provide clear voice instructions and visual prompts, guiding you through every step. They even analyse the person’s heart rhythm and will only deliver a shock if one is needed.

💔 In a sudden cardiac arrest, every minute counts. Using an AED alongside effective CPR can significantly increase a person’s chance of survival.

⭐ Remember these simple steps:

‼️Is the casualty breathing?
📞 Call 999/112
❤️ Start CPR
⚡ Turn on the AED and follow the prompts
🙌 Don’t be afraid to use it, it could save a life.

The biggest mistake isn’t using an AED… it’s being too afraid to try. (You’ve got this 💪)

🎒📚 Well, we’ve RUN (not with scissors ✂️) into the new school term!

What better way to start than by getting schools across our community first aid ready? 🚑❤️

Over the past two days, we’ve delivered Emergency First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid training to 35 school staff across two schools 😅

Meaning 35 more people are now trained and confident to respond to a medical emergency. 💪

And whilst it’s never cool to boast… we’re going to allow ourselves a tiny proud moment. 🥹

The feedback from our learners has been absolutely fantastic, with one stating:

💬 “I just wanted to say how brilliant Andrew and Penny were. Their depth of knowledge and how they interacted with us was outstanding.” 😀

That genuinely means a lot to us. ❤️

As registered healthcare professionals, we bring our frontline emergency healthcare experience into every course.

It means we can go beyond simply teaching the syllabus we can share real-world clinical knowledge, answer those “but what if…?” questions and create engaging discussions around what actually happens in an emergency 💪

There was plenty of laughing, learning and the occasional questionable first-aid scenario 😉 but alongside the fun, we delivered a very serious message:

👉 Confidence matters.
👉 Competence matters.
👉 Knowing what to do in those first few minutes can make an enormous difference.

And our school report? 📝

⭐ First Aid: Outstanding
⭐ Participation: Excellent
⭐ Laughing: Excessive
⭐ Running with scissors: Absolutely not
⭐ Detentions: Thankfully, none
⭐ Homework: Not eaten by the dog
⭐ Visits to the Headteacher: Avoided

Another brilliant couple of days doing what we love, bringing real-world healthcare experience into the community and helping people feel confident enough to save a life. 🚑❤️

🩺❤️ BASIC LIFE SUPPORT TRAINING — SKILLS THAT CAN SAVE A LIFE! ❤️🩺

A fantastic Basic Life Support training session this morning with a great group from The Lakeside Fitness Training! 💪🏼

We had plenty of fun along the way, whilst developing some incredibly important life-saving skills, including:

❤️ Adult, paediatric & infant CPR
🫶 Recovery positions
⚡ AED awareness & training
🫁 Recognising and managing a choking casualty

The best part? That’s even more people in our community equipped with the knowledge and confidence to potentially save a life. 🙌🏼

And there was a little role reversal today! 😂

It was Andy’s turn to put Nick through his paces alongside the group, Nick is usually the one putting Andy through his paces at Spin Classes! 🚴🏼‍♂️😂 🫣

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and embraced the training. 👏🏼

Would you know what to do if someone suddenly collapsed, choked, or suffered a severe allergic reaction?

Join us on Saturday 15th August | 9:30am – 1:00pm at Lakeside Fitness Studio for our Basic Life Support (BLS) Course and gain the confidence to act in an emergency.

🚑 During this practical, hands-on course you’ll learn:
✅ Adult, Child & Baby CPR
✅ Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
✅ Choking management for adults, children & babies
✅ Recovery positions
✅ Emergency treatment of anaphylaxis and use of an adrenaline auto-injector (EpiPen)

🎓 Everyone who attends will receive an Ofqual Regulated Certificate, valid for 3 years.

🫁 Adult Choking – Would You Know What To Do?

A choking emergency can happen anywhere, at any time at home, in a restaurant, at work or even whilst out with friends.

Knowing the correct first aid protocol could make all the difference! 💪

✅ If the person is coughing effectively:
➡️ Encourage them to keep coughing.
➡️ Stay with them and monitor closely.

🚨 If they cannot cough, speak or breathe:
📞 Call 999 (or 112) immediately.
👋 Give up to 5 back blows.
🤲 If unsuccessful, give up to 5 abdominal thrusts.
🔄 Continue alternating 5 back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts until the obstruction is relieved or they become unconscious.

❤️ If they become unconscious:
➡️ Start CPR immediately and follow the current Adult Basic Life Support guidelines

In today’s digital world, anyone can post medical advice online but not all of it is accurate.

When it comes to CPR and life-saving first aid, misinformation has the potential to cost lives.

Confidence to act in an emergency comes from learning evidence-based skills from qualified professionals. When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, every second counts, and a confident bystander can make the difference between life and death.

This week, Resuscitation Council UK published an important article highlighting the growing challenge of CPR misinformation on social media.

ℹ️For those who may not know, Resuscitation Council UK is a healthcare charity and the UK’s national expert body responsible for setting the clinical standards for CPR and resuscitation. Established in 1983, they develop evidence-based guidelines, educate healthcare professionals and lead public awareness campaigns to improve survival from cardiac arrest.
