Did you know... you can often spot dyslexics in the workplace (and in the classroom) by their strengths and challenges.

We often score very high in some things ⬆️ (often in the top percentile) and very low in others ⬇️ (often in the bottom percentile). This is known as a 'spiky profile'. 📈

For example:
😊 71% of dyslexics are great at communicating (verbal reasoning) - but 89% are poor spellers (working memory)
🔎 8 out of 10 dyslexics are above average at lateral thinking (questioning), but 9 in 10 struggle getting thoughts on paper (organisation).

But, in our new AI-driven world, technology can help mitigate our challenges and our strengths are now the most valuable skills to every employer, across the world.

WHEN IS ‘DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOUR’ ACTUALLY A CHILD STRUGGLING TO COPE?

This ITV News story caught our attention. 25 pupils were suspended during the first week of term at one school, while some parents of children with SEND have raised concerns about sensory needs, overwhelm and reasonable adjustments.

The school says its approach is about creating a safe, disruption-free learning environment.

We don't know the circumstances of the individual children, but it raises an important question.

Our research with 1,103 families found that 83% said the school environment contributed to their child’s attendance difficulties.

Sometimes behaviour is communication. And if we only respond to what we can see, we may completely miss what's happening underneath.

What do you think? How do schools balance consistent boundaries with recognising unmet need? 💛
