57% of unpaid carers feel overwhelmed 'often' or 'always'. This Mental Health Awareness Week, here are 5 realistic actions that actually help π
This year's MHAW theme is Action, but when you're already running on fumes, "take action for your mental health" can sound like another job on the list.
It's important to know that action isn't always a 5am yoga class or a weekend retreat. Action can be what you do in the three minutes while the kettle boils.
πΏ Step outside for two minutes before the next visit. Soak in some Vitamin D.
πΆββοΈ Roll your neck and drop your shoulders while the microwave hums.
π¬ Send one quick text to stay connected (you're not contractually obligated to reply the second they reply back).
π΄ Plug your phone in across the room before bed. Protect your peace.
π Give yourself the same grace you give the people you care for.
None of this takes away from the difficulty of a hard week, but it can help you carry the weight a little more easily. Pick the easiest one. Try it tomorrow.
Save this for a day when the tank is empty. Send it to someone who needs the reminder.
Stats from Carers UK. Actions adapted from NHS Every Mind Matters.
