Do you know why England football shirts have 3 lions on their shirt badge?
Henry I first used a lion in his coat of arms and added another when he married. His grandson, Henry II, added a third. He was succeeded by his son, Richard I, who carried on the tradition and it was then adopted as the royal arms by every monarch.
This photo shows the coat of arms of Henry VIII in the stone fire place at Leeds Castle, one of it's very famous owners!
Follow us for more interesting historical facts that you can share with your class (they won't all be football related 😉).

In 1509 King Henry VIII married Catherine of Aragon on June 11th. There is no surviving portrait of the two of them together, but there are 'side by side' portraits like these in the National Portrait Gallery. Henry owned Leeds Castle and there are many ways to see this on trips around the castle. Look out for the Tudor Rose and Catherine's images of a pomegranate and her castle of Aragon in the fireplaces and doorways.
