Caterpillars 🐛 part 2

From big beasts last week.. (Dinosaurs) to Minibeasts this week !!! Our little Caterpillars have been exploring bugs/insects and all things creepy crawly !! 😃🦟🦋🐌🪱
Some of our little ones have, for some time, displayed great interest in this ..always seeking to find them in the garden etc. And although the weather inhibited such bug hunts this week the children loved watching a resident snail indoors !! 🐌
We also buried some very realistic worms in the soil which were great fun, (and not always easy 🤣) to find, count and collect !!! This is always a popular activity ...and promotes lots of descriptive language and vocabulary!! 🪱
We spoke about bees 🐝 and how they make honey 🍯 looking at pictures of hives and also sampling/tasting some honey ourselves!!
Alongside our insect exploration, and in line with Heathy Eating Week... we have been talking about food that is good for us and the children displayed their, already gained, knowledge regarding this, separating the food in the home corner kitchen to show what they deemed to be healthy ..or not!!!
We made some strawberry and banana smoothie drinks chopping up the fruit and taking it in turn to press the button and watching it whizz up in the blender!!! The children then extended this in their water play afterwards ..pretending to make their own smoothies..suggesting different fruit and adding straws to cups etc which was so nice to see !!!!
We also prepared some grape and celery catetpillar snacks, which proved a little fiddly 😆 but the children were still very eager to do !!!!
Aswell as all the above we have enjoyed some free painting with small brushes, been very careful using the Cork boards, hammers and pins, demonstrated our excellent fine motor threading skills, and also our gross motor abilities ..jumping like frogs from one 'lily pad' to the next !!!
On Friday we wished our much loved ❤️ and most fabulous Honey (Staff) a very Happy Birthday 🎂!!!!
Despite the disappointing weather, we have had a very busy and really rather lovely week !!!!!! 😃🦠🐛

Dinosaur 🦖 day was a blast, we played with some very messy dino glupe, made some dinosaur pictures and done lots of dancing. 🕺🏽
We explored the Colour monster, using the Tuff tray, the maths counters and some coloured rice to scoop and pour with.

We also made some very sparkly Bucket and spades
