Today, Chaffinch Class baked a delicious honey cake inspired by the story Omar, the Bees and Me! 🐝🍯
Using our learning about measurement in maths, we carefully measured the ingredients and followed Omar’s mum’s recipe from the story.
We have been learning about the important role bees play in helping plants grow and supporting our environment.
We finished the day by enjoying our cake together while re-reading the story outside 📚☀️
Celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday
Our Reception children fully embraced the spirit of the day, with many arriving dressed as their favourite animals and enthusiastically sharing their animal sounds and movements. A range of carefully planned activities encouraged the children to explore, investigate and learn about different animals while developing their independence, curiosity and confidence. Through play-based learning, they practised a variety of important skills and enjoyed discovering more about the natural world in a fun and engaging way.
Celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday
Our Science Garden was transformed into an exciting archaeological dig, as pupils stepped into the role of palaeontologists. Armed with brushes and tools, they carefully excavated and uncovered hidden discoveries, demonstrating excellent concentration, patience and respect for both nature and their surroundings. The activity brought their learning to life, helping children deepen their understanding of dinosaurs while making meaningful links to their current PYP inquiry work.
Celebrating Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday
Our Forest School area provided the perfect setting for pupils to explore, discover and connect with nature. Children spent time investigating habitats, searching for bugs, identifying plants, climbing and playing amongst the trees, and working together on a range of outdoor challenges. Inspired by Sir David Attenborough's curiosity and love of the natural world, the children showed great enthusiasm, teamwork and respect for the environment as they learned through hands-on experiences.

To celebrate the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough, the whole school came together for a special themed day inspired by his passion for wildlife and the natural world. Pupils and staff dressed as animals or wore green, enjoyed a whole-school assembly where we watched and listened to Sir David and learned about his incredible impact on conservation, and shared a whole-school picnic at lunchtime. Throughout the day, children took part in a wide range of exciting activities, many of them outdoors, making the most of our extensive grounds, including our Science Garden, Forest School area and beautiful outdoor spaces filled with trees, flowers and wildlife.
