One of the best signs of a successful language class isn’t perfect grammar.
It’s laughter.

When students feel comfortable enough to laugh together, make jokes, and even laugh at their own mistakes, something important happens: the fear of getting it wrong begins to disappear.

In this video, the laughter came after students were experimenting with the future tense and making humorous predictions. The grammar was important, of course, but so was the atmosphere.

Friendships are formed, confidence grows, and learning becomes less about perfection and more about communication.

After all, nobody remembers every grammar rule they’ve studied, but they do remember the moments when they surprised themselves, achieved something they didn’t think they could do, and shared a laugh with others along the way.

Perhaps that’s why laughter is one of the most underrated tools in language learning.
(And yes, the future tense can be surprisingly funny!)

Happy San Isidro!
Continuing our exploration of culture, dance, and food, today Madrid celebrates the San Isidro Festival, in honour of Saint Isidore, the patron saint of farmers and labourers.

This celebration reminds us of the rich traditions, vibrant music, and delicious foods that connect people to history and community.

Take a look at this photo, what do you notice? What stands out to you about the festival?

Sometimes a single moment lasts only a second, yet it says more than an entire conversation.
The light changes, people move on, and everyday scenes disappear almost unnoticed. There’s something meaningful about learning to pause long enough to truly observe them.
Perhaps that’s why some moments stay with us, not because they were extraordinary, but because someone chose to pay attention.

While preparing for tonight’s Intermediate Spanish class, I found myself reflecting on how we talk about festivals and food.
In the UK, food is often something we share, around a table or at local events. Occasionally, it takes on a more playful role, like at the Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling, where participants chase a wheel of cheese down a hill.

In Spain, however, food festivals can take this idea even further, from throwing tomatoes at “La Tomatina de Buñol” to hurling grapes at “La Guerra de la uva”, where food becomes the centre of the experience.

En España, la comida no solo se comparte… también se celebra.

A reminder that learning a language is also about understanding how culture is lived, not just defined.

May everything good follow you, find you, and stay with you!
Learning a language is not just about words or grammar.

It is about opening new ways of thinking, connecting, and experiencing the world.

There is something quietly powerful about expressing yourself in another language. A sense of growth, confidence, and perspective that builds over time.

Every step forward, no matter how small, becomes part of that journey.

Here’s a lovely example of a role play performed by two of our youngest students, aged 6 and 7, fantastic confidence and enthusiasm!

Can you recognise your voice? 😊
“What does the chicken do?”
“The chicken lays eggs.”
“What does the chicken do?”
“The chicken clucks.”
