Valley Park’s Year 7 recently enjoyed an inspiring visit from acclaimed author A.F. Steadman, during which they designed their own bespoke unicorn characters. Ms Steadman shared exciting updates regarding the cinematic adaptation of her Skandar series, currently in production. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where students inquired about the nuances of a literary career and offered remarkably insightful contributions to the discourse on fantasy world-building.

On Tuesday 9 June, Valley Park School partnered with SST to take part in their first ever cheerleading competition at Medway Park. Cheerleading has been a brand-new extra-curricular opportunity offered to students this year after members of the PE department gained their cheerleading qualifications to introduce this exciting sport to our school community.
The competition supported the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, which aims to encourage more girls to become involved in physical activity and lead healthy, active lifestyles. The club has provided a fantastic opportunity for students to try something new, build confidence and develop teamwork skills.
“It has been amazing to gain a cheerleading qualification and bring something new and exciting to the girls at Valley Park School,” said Miss Power. “This non-traditional sport has attracted students who I haven’t seen attend an after-school club before, which has been wonderful to see.”
The competition was an exciting occasion, with students dedicating themselves to training sessions after school and at lunchtimes to perfect their routine. Students of all abilities were welcomed, and Valley Park School joined forces with SST to create a VIAT team, showcasing the strong sense of community across our trust.
“It was lovely to see students from both schools come together and make new friends over the past few weeks,” continued Miss Power. “They showed great teamwork, kindness and encouragement towards one another.”
The girls performed brilliantly on the day, delivering their routine with confidence and enthusiasm. Their hard work paid off as they secured an impressive second place in their category – a fantastic achievement for their first ever cheerleading competition. Everyone involved should be incredibly proud of their commitment, sportsmanship and the way they represented both schools.

On Tuesday 16 June, Valley Park School travelled to Oakwood Park for the annual Maidstone Schools Athletics Competition. Students from all year groups represented the school with pride, taking part in a wide range of track and field events and demonstrating outstanding athletic ability, determination and sportsmanship.
Throughout the day, we witnessed some fantastic performances, with students giving their all and achieving impressive results across the various events. Every participant showcased true talent, resilience and a positive attitude, making the school proud with their commitment and enthusiasm.
It was wonderful to see students from different year groups coming together to support one another, creating a fantastic atmosphere as they cheered each other on and celebrated successes. Throughout the day, they clearly embodied Valley Park School’s values of ambition, respect and kindness — both in their performances and the encouragement they gave teammates and friends. As Miss Power noted: “We are incredibly proud of the determination, sportsmanship and sense of community displayed by all those who took part.”
The event provided a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves, build confidence and represent the school community with pride. We would like to congratulate all competitors on their effort, commitment and excellent behaviour throughout the day. Well done to everyone involved for making the day such a memorable and successful occasion.
